Well ur right, not much to lose!! Haha, I'll have a look and see what I can achieve!

Thanks =]

Ah, Could be =[ I guess that's pretty terminal.

Another one bites the dust gents. I'll be more careful next time.

Oh yes, there will be a next time. I am not put off.

Shame for that unit though. Can u reap many spares?

Checked all the suggestion and buttons still not working.. Ribbon cable looks damaged. Think it must be that =[

What I don't understand though, how can u fit the RGB circuit board in that tiny gap without applying pressure to the ribbon? It seems impossible..

When I first screwed the thing back together the B button felt a bit stiff but it's not an original one and had never been installed before. The moulding was a bit ragged round one of the edges so I trimmed it a little with Stanley and reassembled the unit and it seemed much better. Perhaps I screwed it in a little differently but not sure about that.

Gonna have another go at the consarned thing the now and I'll let ye all know what happens!

Pure worried it's yon ribbon cable jenny!

What causes a short? Only just got into this soldering malarky so not up to speed entirely yet.

Aha! Thanks for the advice =]

I reckon it might be the ribbon cable as the nut holding the RGB circuit board at one side is pressed firmly against the cable.. I guess I could try taking the nut out completely and see what happens.

Will give this a go tonight and let you know how I get on!

Thanks again.

I just fitted one of the RGBva kits from Kitsch and it's working a treat! However, now the start, select, A & B buttons are not functioning.

Does anyone know why this may be?

Brilliant =] Thanks kitsch, really looking forward to giving this a go =]

Sounds like it.. Damn I enjoyed that. Going to have a hardcore search around to see if I can hear it again!

Thanks for letting me know! =]=]=]

I was listening to the live stream from Blip Tokyo the other morning and someone played a tune with samples from Set You Free by N-Trance (The vocals "Close to me").

Does anyone know what this is called or who it's by?

sorry, overlooked your questions earlier...

the basic process is the same, yes.

the MAIN difference in installation is that you don't need to clip off any of the white plastic to the left side.  our backlight shines from the bottom upwards, rather than from the left side like backlights out there.

so, don't cut that plastic.  there is a TINY piece to cut, but its just two small snips.

the tutorial will be out before the kits arrive to everyone that has pre-ordered.

and, when the parts arrive, pre-ordering is done and real ordering happens.  the exact same thing...

i hope that helps smile

i think if you are familiar with the basic installation method of backlights in general, this will be as easier, if not more so.

the stock polarization film comes out, put in the backlight (wires coming out the bottom), put in the extra diffusion film, put in the polarization film, that's it fr the backlight part.  the rest is mounting the PCB, which is just drilling 5 small holes.

or, if you just want to set it and forget it, just do that and hide the PCB inside the DMG, don't drill any holes.

i'll get some pics up soon, and documentation/tuts will follow shortly.

Very helpful! Thanks a lot! =] Going to put my order in the now =] =]

I don't know what most of that stuff does but it looks AMAZING! =]

It almost looks as if it's hooked up to life support in the last picture! lol

I have witnessed things being soldered plenty of times so I reckon I can do it no trouble, it doesn't look too difficult altho I have never done it myself previously.. That part doesn't intimidate me.

LOL @ hams for fists! =]

Do I just follow a regular tutorial for backlighting supplementing this kit into the process or is there anything involved which is majorly different?

Many thanks for the help & advice being offered here folks, very much appreciated!

I have another question, never having done a backlight mod before, is this a sensible one to start with or does it require the skill of someone with previous mods under their belt?

Cool, thanks for the help folks =]

Probably will just be LSDj. It's all I have used so far - Just starting out with this sort of stuff =] Got plans to learn tho!
