I'm waiting for lipo battery to arrive and I'm about to make my GBP usb rechargeable and also use the port to update the code in (future) internal arduinoboy. Maybe usb midi if the arduinoboy -> teensy conversion goes well. It is a shame to use the USB for only one thing wink

Hi and welcome!

I'd suggest using separate circuit for the sequencer and sound generator. There are many kits and schematics for 4017 sequencers - you might know these already.

For the sound generator check this: http://ericarcher.net/devices/mini-space-rockers/
It is very easy to build and there are many kinds of sounds you can get using different caps. You could even siplify the circuit by only keeping everything from C3 to the right (C3 included). Then you trigger it with push button (tied to +9V).

I have schematics for noise generator based drum synth (as simple as mini space rocker) but I cannot find it now. I'll try harder. That one need 12V though.

Hope it helps!

edit: couldn't find the noise-based one online so I had to reupload it: http://i49.tinypic.com/aw3h3c.png

If you take the midi route then korg electribe is powefull and affordable option. I have ES-1 and I really like it but I always wanted an EM-1. Depeds on what kind of sounds you want to get.

Same here. I wanted one so I just sanded a scratched up silver one:

Yeah, I've seen that - looks pretty neat. Might give it a go if I bump into a suitable pocket..

What do you guys think of the grey pockets? I'd love to get it but it's hard to find one with reasonable price...
I personally prefer pockets. It's the way it looks not the sound.

Midiout is great but not really what he needs.

Just wire the DMG buttons to arduino or picaxe or something. This should help you with the picaxe code - it is the cheapest solution. Be sure to read something on how the switches are actually made/wired.

Sell CGB -> buy DMG -> get it backlit.

I don't think this is the way it should be wired. Try removing the most left wire from pot (on the 2nd pic). You generally want to make the resistor which sets the clock of the whole device variable. You can either replace it with pot or wire the pot paralel with timing resistor. You should probably also try larger pot capacity.

From my experience gameboys are too expensive on german ebay.
