It's apparently not about mainstreamness or not, it's about resting from chip music, or at least from releasing any. There's a lot of things we can do by not releasing any music, which could be polishing work to be released in 2014, practicing our skills with the instrument or the software, trying another artistic venue like literature or pixelart or building with LEGO or whatever...

...or WORKING OUT AND GETTING BUFF *flexes muscles*

It'd be an interesting experiment to do, not releasing anything as finished on 2013. That way, we'd let everything we compose that year grow and mature. Many artists recommend letting our creations rest for a long while, and then pick them back up with fresh ears and a different state of mind to see if we can still like them then. If there's something we overlooked or forgot to do back when we were composing them.

Not to mention that partaking in the experiment gives us all a chance to polish our intended releases to perfection.

And it'd also mean January 1st 2014 would have TONS UPON TONS OF RELEASES AT ONCE. And all of them would be amazing.

If you release it in 2012.

Everything I've ever done in the chip scene, even if very little, I've done with the utmost seriousness and respect. Even if it's a goofy song for a BotB one-hour battle, I make it with the intention of scoring high. (Though, one thing is intention, and another is making it...)

There's always at least one...

Speaking of stuff in FCM that there's always at least one of, I'm surprised that there's no chip-vocal stuff this year...

...unless there is and I'm forgetting it?

(Pictures of a City, GET WILD '12, Gothloli Attack and the PENIS entries don't count, those are sample-based :P)

Already submitted a cover. Called it "somewhat decent" in the description, fearing people will think worse of it. sad

The way I feel about a piece of my creation depends solely if I think it's good or not.

If I'm proud of it, listening to it feels awesome.

If I'm not, however, it can even feel embarrassing.

Well, I don't know about LSDJ, but I know of one famous person that uses OctaMED in his Amiga. That's more related to my interests.

Welp. This was pretty sudden.

Oh well, let's see what I can do for this one.

My personal  view on nintendocore is that it is a ridiculous name, but I have no idea what it sounds like. I don't think I want to.

It sounds like pop rock with arps and powerup SFXs, in the worst cases. And as Anamanaguchi in the best ones.

wait nintendocore was actually a thing?

I thought it was just a shitty alternate name for chiptune/chiptunes

I'm with those who say chiptune isn't a genre but a medium. Therefore, nintendocore would be a genre which uses the chiptune medium, if you go by my standards.

And, well, most well-respected chiptune artists focus on leaving the videogameish image aside and just make music with the soundchip, and if I understand correctly, nintendocore musicians focus more on trying to evoke the image of videogames in their songs.

one time i was using an odd time signature and then all these events happened because of it

I bet this happened a lot to classical musicians trying to pioneer in odd time signatures.

"One time I presented a tune in a weird time signature. People started leaving the opera house, and when I tried to debut another piece, no one wanted to sign me!"

You can get those MP3 player/audio cassette combos from dealextreme. Speaking of which, those cassettes with a line in cable are good for turning old cassette players into cheap overdrives/equalizers/MEGA BASS things.

Oh yes, the car stereo adapter cassette. I have one right here, along with a very old Walkman tape player. Now all I need is some tracks to process through it.
