Pretty sure I read this thread every 2 months and each time it has a new title and a new authority on chip music appears.

The "FAQ" cycle never ends as long as new people keep appearing in the scene. And I'm not sure stickies, FAQ pages, or even video tutorials are gonna help decrease it.

If you're worrying about the tags you'll add to your release, then "chiptune" is alright. If you feel the need to be more specific, judging by what you described in your opening post, you could add the tags "module" and "Renoise".

I wouldn't recommend to add the "8bit" tag because it's too overdone these days, but that's just my personal opinion.

There's no need to use "fakebit".

is this guy fishing for a permanent ban?

because if I were a mod, I would've taken the bait a few threads ago

foobar2k works perfectly for straight up sound files; and XMPlay is the best choice for modules and chip files

so it's not really like we're dead in the water without WinAmp.

i prefer the term "egg"

I think I need a nice egg in this trying time.

Am I late to the punch?

Because... we could always call it "synth". I mean sure, it won't always involve analog synthesizers a la Vangelis, but I doubt even the out run scene nowadays relies solely on hardware, much less old hardware.

And, well... we're using synth. AM? FM? Phase distortion? Additive? Subtractive? Granular? Procedural? Samples? Whatever? It's synthesis!

It all sounds incredibly jarring to me. Though I am a fan of simplicity and of clean sound design.

At least we can all agree that Chibi-tech is pretty cool.

Wouldn't you need permission from all the people who uploaded to 8bc before doing something like this?

I'm gonna say it's not my cup of tea. Susumu Hirasawa is (was?) also a heavy OctaMED user but I only like some of his work.

This is a only-OC deal, no reblogs or anything of the sort. Though if you want to know what's my reblog account, that could be arranged.

Zan-zan-zawa-veia, if he ever decides to give live performances of any kind.
