Performed a set at a Free party in a secret location in the UK last night to a crowd of about 50 people. Went down well. Here's a video of my show.

What did others think, Thoughts.etc?

This is fascinating. I have very little knowledge of LSDJ, but I'm going to look into the custom sample function now for future reference. I'm interested in making minimal techno with pedals and a sequencer in a live setting. I found the work of this gentleman: http://youtu.be/oWNMZVOnGT0 to be pretty thought provoking.

Thanks. cool, that was an interesting video. One way you can alter the groove of a track in LSDj changing it's default 6/6 groove to 8/4. You get more of a swing in the track.

I was wondering if there's been much crossed with the music styles minimal techno and chipmusic, also how far people have utilised the custom sample function in LSDj.

I've been experimenting sampling a number of recorded percussive instruments, nanoloop sounds and non-instruments such as tapping the bark of trees and putting them into LSDj. The aim was to try and make the least game-like sounds in LSDj

The result was having a diverse range of samples to use in LSDj. This is an example of what some of it sounds like:- https://soundcloud.com/cs001/untitled-demo-1

What do others think, have others used the custom sample function a lot in LSDj?

the USPS website is telling me $42 and some change for 3-5 day shipping.
And yeah, I meant just grey DMGs with backlight/prosound, but I can swap the original buttons out for a different color if you'd like.
These are the colors I've got on hand at the moment:

As for backlights I currently have 2 white, 1 yellow, 2 red, 1 indigo, and 2 blue.

Send me a PM if you decide you'd like me to put 'em together for you!

Thanks, which backlight do you think is the brightest- white?

I could put a couple together for you for $45 each and I have a decent variety of backlight and button colors, but I'm in the US and shipping would end up being at least $40 to get them to you in time.
here are some examples of my work if you're interested.

Cool, how fast do you think it would take to get here if you shipped two? Like your designs though looking more for the plain/original designs if that was possible. Thanks

Hi,

I've got a gig coming up next week and I haven't got enough experience to pro sound or back light two game boys.  I've got the kits to do it with though.

I'm looking to either purchase two DMG's with a back light and prosound.   Or to possibly send both DMG's out to someone who could do it for me. I'm based in the UK so ideally I don't want to get them over seas to save time and money.

Contact here and I'll get back. How much would this cost for two? Thanks

Hey,

Tried removing the film off a gameboy recently. Though the white wire seemed to of snapped a bit. Is this okay or a problem?

Thanks

I'm gonna keep shouting "hey" at the Korg KM402 for your 4-channel DJ FX Mixer needs:

http://www.djworx.com/skratchworx/reviews/km.php

they're not in production anymore, so you'll probably have to eBay one -- they're around $300ish I think. fx per channel. they pretty much took a mini-kp and smashed it into the mixer, so that's the fx set you'll be working with.

there's also the behringer djx750 -- it's a little cheaper, which means the fx aren't as good but it fits your requirements pretty well:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/DJX750.aspx

unfortunately, I'm not aware of very many mixers that have an actual fx send per channel if you're trying to get a kp3 or something into your chain. I've seen chillbrave with a workaround that involves 2 mixers and having one of them with an fx send loop (with a kp3) feed into the second one which acts as like a "master" mixer, but that's something you'll have to figure out

Cool, thanks for the info. I noticed the behringer 802 has an adjustable FX send for external effect units though it doesn't seem to be a function in DJ mixers.

Do none mixers like this currently exist? If so what kind of process would go into making your own mixer? No doubt it'd be complicated and technical.

Or if you wanted to try to get the newer model which is more money, and also discontinued, there is the NUMARK X9. They seem to be hard to find though.

Cool, thanks for these. They look interesting and close to what I could be after. By effects I really meant external effects.

Hi,

I'd like some advice on a mixer which has some specific requirements* to suit for live use and a minimum of 3 inputs. Budget is £100-upwards. Effects aren't necessary though could be useful - ideally with a tap button. The mixer needs to have sliders, eq and a crossfader too.

* I'm looking for a mixer which also has a FX send per input so I could have external effects  (i.e - delay/reverb) running through one input though not a another channel.

Does anyone know if a mixer like this exists?

Thanks.

EDIT:- Spelling, information

Cool thanks, I'll check those out too.

Hi,

I came across this EQ pedal 'Mesa Boogie Five-Band Graphic EQ Pedal' which has a slider with +/- 12db of boost or cut at precisely 80Hz. On the flip side it only seems to be monophonic.

I was thinking it would be helpful to use with a mixer for live sets which have no Low,Mid, or High eq knobs to give a kick drum a bit more boost. Has anyone else used this pedal/hardware before? What do others think?

nanoloop 1.5 (i believe) has the hidden "fifth channel."

Ah yeah I remember Nanoloop 1.5 with that 'hidden channel'. Though it's quite limited itself i found and wasn't what I was looking for.

I was thinking more about the idea of tracker by default starting with 4 tracks though with an option of being able to add on a possible 5th, 6th or 7th *  track/channel of your choice (I.e- a pulse channel,  a wave channel). I  think this just sits as an idea though it'd be cool if it could be possibly developed!

I don't know what the limits are to programming such a program onto a cartridge itself would consist of though.

Hi,

I'm happy with the restrictions of 4 tracks in programs like LSDj and Nanoloop. Though I was wondering any trackers exist which ideally also hold sample instruments that go beyond 4 tracks?

I've seen Amiga trackers and some computer based trackers with the capability of going beyond 4 tracks which is helpful (i.e -layering, an extra waveform to be able to create 3rd or 5th notes). Just wondered if this is a possibility to develop. If not, why isn't there?

Perhaps theres a limit on a cartridge? Yet there's 64 mb of space on a cartridge, surely this feature could be taken advantage of?

Just some thoughts, what do others think?
