This is a soundtrack I made in less than 1 day during a game jam at Phoenix Comicon 2015. It was organized by Game CoLab and Intel. My soundtrack was awarded Excellence in Audio presented by Intel and Game CoLab at Phoenix Comicon. I went for a C64 meets Gameboy style sound. With this composition, I wrote something catchy, energetic, and with a feeling of tension to match the gameplay idea. I also tried to keep it somewhat varied so it wouldn't become too annoying looping over and over again while you play the game.

Our game was called Ski Vector and is a Unity 3D, parodic update to the classic game SkiFree. The game was programmed by Ian Robinson and Noti Peppas. The logo was designed by my wife Melissa. I provided the original soundtrack, title screen graphics, and some gameplay ideas. Learn more at skivector.com.

While I totally understand the situation here; I don't think that bashing at me with a "fucking plugin" flag will help in any way smile
I perfectly understands the hardware nerds point of view even if it doesn't make much sense in case of FM synthesis or PSG because it is a full digital process in the first place, whether it is happening in a custom chip + Z80, 68K processor or inside a PC.
The limitations, which are an important part of the creative process, are known and you can perfectly stick to that if you want to...
I have spend a lot of time on this an so far many users around the world are happy with it included well known original FM systems composers.
My intervention in this thread were mainly focused on using the plugins as visual controllers for the GenMDM, which is cool, however the support is kind of freezed by the actual situation for a long time as many things have to be corrected on the hardware Firmware side.

Seb is a wonderful person and if you follow his work he is constantly creating new things and seems to find motivation out of new territories.. that is why after almost 2 years without any public news about GenMDM I think he has moved on since the initial development and do not feel quiet like willing to work too much on this anymore... As a result, updates will b very sporadic. At least that is how I feel about this.
I can be wrong on the reasons but the "no infos about the sate of orders" politics is out of my understanding.

The thing which is uncool is that it reflect a bad aura on the ChipMusic.org Sega Forum... There is a lots of positive things going on in this territory, You already have Trackers like Deflemask or VGMM, plugins like FMDrive & SPSG, MML compilers etc... which all can outputs VGM for real hardware playing if needed but more importantly lets you create MUSIC which is I think the aim of all this.
I have provided ROMS to play with, converters for many chips, pushed the limits on the PSG techniques etc...to feel kind of disappointed by the "fucking plugin" stuff. Even if people are exasperated from this undelivered situation.

I suggest for all the undelivered persons to make a thread especially for that and point Little Scale to it as a clear reference, leaving the original thread about the concept free of that bad aura.

On a last note I now feel like spoiling about something, as GenMDM is a wonderful concept, it is not open source so I cannot tweak anything myself nor anybody else and needs an actual console to work...
So I am working with somebody on an open hardware dual YM2612/YM3438 module 100% compatible with FMDrive, so far the module is already made and working... We will work on the software side for some time until it will be OK, then choose a way to spread that things around. So the open hardware concept will basically provide any platform a way to control the FM chips.
I won't talk about this anymore now, don't ask questions, but keep in minds it will come...
I hope this situation will be solved at some point so as people can make positive Genesis things again.

Bro, it wasn't a bash. I love your sound (I support a lot of your demos on Soundcloud). What I'm saying is that I want the hardware for the reason that A) I bought it and B) the creative aspect of using something different. It's annoying to hear people tell me, but use this instead. Anyway, another problem with your plugin is that it seems be only for Windows. I am on a Mac computer and I use Reason. Maybe you can port your plug in to be a Reason extension. smile

After 1 year and 6 months of tweets and emails, I still haven't gotten mine. I'm a bit frustrated with the situation, however I'm trying to be optimistic. I just wish he'd let us know what the deal is.
It's also annoying to read this thread and hear about a fucking plugin. While the plugin is nice, it's not what we're waiting for.

Also eagerly, yet patiently waiting.

Waiting for this hurts but i know it will be worth it.

Chip tune related since a lot of her earlier work was on NES/SNES/GEN/MSX etc..

Looking forward to mine... smile

It's already online and I just paid for mine! Wooo hooo!

Anyone ever used G.E.M.S.  (Genesis Emulation Music Software)?

Tommy Tallarico talks about it in this interview.
http://www.sega-16.com/feature_page.php … 0Tallarico

its also mentioned in the X-Men Genesis wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_(Sega)

Seems like its a computer software and midi interface for Sega Genesis. Presumably its quite rare as it was used only by game development companies. A google search turns up very little.

Just playing Devil's advocate here: What is the advantage of having a native Sega tracker when FM synthesis can be found in many, many other Yamaha products? Is it just to say "I make music on a Genesis," or is there some compelling argument I'm missing? I can see why the c64 (among others) would be highly sought after, but from what I gather you can achieve near-exact results elsewhere with this.

Please school my ass. smile

I want the real hardware not only the FM but also the PSG sound and any sampling/drums ability. The reason being that working on the real hardware offers to you a unmatchable authentic sound and an unmatchable creative experience that you get with the hardware. I go through this same argument with people who dont understand why i buy analog synths from the 80s instead of using plugins.

i for one would be interested in making a substantial investment in a software like this for genesis. but with little-scale's hardware/software interface (potentially) around the corner its a hard choice.

ha this thread really snow balled...

I'd be interested in putting down on something like this, but what do you think the general cost to develop a program like this would be?
(maybe this is more a question for shiru)

$100 would be well worth the investment for soemthing to control a genesis with midi. Even a sort of music app would be worth it given you're working in a very niche envrionment.

Little-scale's thing isn't done yet is it? I see postings going back to 2008, and ofcourse I've heard his absolutely incredible music (presumably made with his own device).
I'd be eager to get one of those, I also want to invest in the MIDInes. I'm somewhat a synth nerd in general, as I already own various "real" analog synths such as the Juno 106, Juno 6, SH-101, CZ1000 (Phase distortion ftw), and a Moog MG-1.
Of all the systems i've owned, I always loved the gritty charm of the Genesis the most. I know I could fake it with plugs, but I like to have the real gear because working that way brings something new creatively to the project.

Thanks guys.
I guess primarily we're really waiting for little-scale's midi device to be done.

Quick question, which may have been answered in the past but I haven't found anything solid on it...

Is there a ROM available for Genesis that allows you to make music with it?

I found out about this thing called PC2MD which appears to be a tracker, although I think its website is down.

Although, what I'm really looking to know is if someone made something more user friendly than a tracker like that. Maybe in the homebrew/public domain scene.
