My suggestion for the near future:

You can find them for well under $100 on eBay.  The best combination of features I've found for a cheap mixer i.e. actual faders, sends on every channel, L and R gain on stereo channels.  Can even run on batteries LOL

Rent a mixer from a local music shop.

Pretty neat music, the presentation is a nice change of pace for sure.

Finally!  This is some of the first chipmusic I ever heard, still some of the best.

this is a totally different kind of article though, in fact it is just a list of the gear people use. it's cool but it's aimed at a completely different audience to the article in the OP (well that's my impression anyway)

I was referring more to the introductory sections of each piece like this section from part 2:

"Today, the lowest common denominator of music production is more a matter of putting together premade pieces than actually composing something entirely new.

That’s where 8-bit musicians like the Datathrash crew differ. Each of these guys has a deep understanding of the circuitry their dealing with, what components are actually producing sound, and how they’re doing it. Presets don’t often come into play in this particular frontier of electronic music, and their methodology is a beacon of hope for those of us who value the human brain’s comprehension of the technology that augments our lives. And for those who don’t, the music still sounds pretty damn cool.

Let’s meet a few more of these cowboys."

[Blatant plug for this article 'cause I'm proud of the guys I work with]

Check this out to cleanse your palate and convince yourself that not all journalists are lazy, non-thinking, "lol look how retro and silly these guys are" types:

Use a dark color scheme in darm lighting and a light color scheme in bright lighting. I found that it helps my eyes stare at the screen better in the dark, and helps the glare not affect it so much in the light.

ooooh, switchable theme from the project page might be nice!

A "looped listen" option in the import screen would be sweet.

Also some indication of how much RAM you've used/have left.

Looped listen is a noted feature request, I think the piggers called it "osc preview"

Remaining ram is an interesting one. have you run out of ram before? It isnt an issue ive encountered.

I've had freeze ups when trying to use really long samples (Pulp Fiction quotes or some dumb shit like that) or on opening a project where I've imported tons of samples.  I'm assuming that was low RAM.  It's a very rare thing to happen, I'd like to see it more out of curiousity than anything.  smile

Also, does anyone have any ideas for other minor user experience enhancers like extra key combos / the extra select mode etc?

Might be a permissions problem, but I was having trouble making songs in the root dir and importing samples to new songs on PSP..

Made an extra dir [SONGS] to save them in and it works fine.

I've just started having that problem too, can't import.  So you're saying you have your project folders are no longer in the LGPT root directory and that solved your problem?

with the exception of psp 3000 which is probably being phased out, I think there aren't and portable platforms which support piggy being made any more?

Wait, does the mean the PSP 2000 I just shelled out for won't run piggy?

You're fine.  He's saying that the PSP3000 is the only piggy-capable system that is still be produced new.

Can't not do these.

Reaper and Audacity.  Both work just like I want them to.  I got a free version of WaveLab with some online purchase but I've never done anything except open it up and say "NOPE!" lol

After you're done reading Logan's interview check this out as well tongue
