I have a LOT of problems with switching jacks in some of my game boys. It sounds silly, but try plugging/unplugging your headphones a few times. That usually fixes it on my Light (but that one's pretty stubborn so it comes back).
Outside of that, it's probably a connection issue, and then I'm as lost as you are right now. But, you know, sometimes it's as simple as a big piece of something getting itself into the switching jack.
oh, yeah, and i'm totally ordering a few of those amazing clear cases. 8D

I would buy one of these, but if I could get you to solder the SMT stuff (i can handle everything else, i'm sure) beforehand for the cost of the labour, I'd be in 100%.
Send him the plastic shell from a car backlight for Transculent Red.
And if he do the Crystal Cart, please also one version just with the blue tone and not with the silver sparkles.
But the sparkles are what makes it! I just love the way it looks. *~* It'd be an awesome limited edition, I think. I even have a friend who does awesome design work who I'm sure would do a pokémon-themed sticker for the back.

if people can send me the cases, i can match colors. thats not a bad idea, i just don't have the cases to do this with.

I could probably send you a Crystal cart, if I've got one lying around that I'm not using for something else.. Extreme Green would be cool too, but I def can't send a game boy.

I have to second this - Parodius is pretty great. There used to be a site where you could get random, B-grade Famicom games for $2 a piece, and one of the ones I got was Parodius. SO FUN
aaa. can't wait for the new prosound board! as for the backlight, i think my next one is gonna be EL, but this one looks good, as always. :3
also, just wanted to add that i got a backlight added to my pocket by ASM and it looks super, and the job he did was super clean.

it's just easier to use Confœderatio Helvetica (Latin) when you've got 23098434 official languages and can't choose between calling it der Schweiz and la Suisse and all the other names.
