Take a video!

yes - with direct audio I want to hear!

Wow... the way this evolves is fascinating!

With such a small source code it seems like this is as much a discovery as a creation? (I don't mean that disparagingly!)  Can you explain a bit about what is actually happening to produce this result?

Nice! Lots of useful info in this video.

Lots of nice and interesting stuff going on in this - really enjoyed it. On the downside the rhythm pattern could maybe do with a bit more variation.

uFMOD: http://ufmod.sourceforge.net/

Really small XM playback library for loads of different languages, plus it includes a tool to make XM modules smaller by stripping out unneeded stuffs.

Might it have something to do with emulated ports? Has anyone else encountered this issue?

I'm not sure if it relates to your problem, but in the past I've had issues with MIDI timing due to IRQ sharing under XP: look in Device Manager, select View -> Resources by connection, see if a bunch of stuff has the same number in the IRQ section... maybe you'll need to do some dabbling in your BIOS to ensure that the USB controller your MIDI cable is connected to has it's own IRQ?
