These are the ones to get.
Apple IIe ($20+, pretty decent for 8 bit software) + You can get music cards & drum cards and runs most software. I have one that runs drumkey.

Apple IIc ($30+, portable, but not expandable) + You can get a "Cricket" sound module and runs most software. I have one that runs MCS and the new 1 bit synth software.

Apple IIgs ($10+, price varies wildly based on upgrades, most powerful) has a 16 channel 8 bit sound chip by the guy who designed the sid chip. Runs most Apple II software too!

Nice. Let me know when you get that going. Logan and Stefan have been kinda coming to me for IIgs stuff. As for doing music on apple II, here is something which you'll all find useful:

http://eightbitsoundandfury.ld8.org/

Run by my buddy Luddite! It covers most everything for Apple II, but not for IIgs.

Logan- I'm gonna email John again today, since he's back at work and could probably check for me, and I have to go up there every day to pick my brother up from school anyhow, so if he still has one I could get it this week. Also, I'm going to need to recap mine, it's getting very shakey for the first 20 mins or use or so. Very annoying.

Love that site, been going there for years! Can you ask him to stop zipping the disk images in that weird format I cant unzip?@!

thanks wink

I think we will never see that day since lots of people take it as a style, and lots of others take it as a medium.
We're in different pages of a book that originated in the same roots.

Well the style issue is a big one because every genre of music has been done by chip musicians. Perhaps it would make more sense to say something like I make "Chip based techno" or "ChipHouse" or "Junglechip" for each variation? I think you may be right about calling chipmusic a genre. Then again, it is an easy way to label it all, sloppy but very simple.

Im working with a friend of mine to release  the 1 bit realtime apple II synth. No sequencnig, must be played LIVE, but dont let that scare you. wink

Logan and Stefen have seen it in action. Should have some news soon!

OMG, we may actually be on the same page! haha

I agree with playing to everyone, not just chip sceners. We play and market our music to everyone. Having said that, we help fans of games and chipmusic alike find us by promoting our gear in our bio/press. I agree that it is limiting to only market and play for people in the chip scene. My aim has aways been to make chip music that is accessible to anyone. Its music anyone can enjoy really.

Also, will we ever see the day we have a label for this music that we can all agree on? lol

Hi Akira,

1) How does one get the WHD on a real disk to install on an a1200?

2) Why is it that a good portion of games I buy have bad disks?

3) Why does my external disk drive work gr8 on my a500 but spotty on my a1200?

4) What will the ending be on LOST's last season?

Thank you in advance!

1) Thats great, so when people hear you say your X style and they dont care about ANOTHER one of those band/artists they will forget about you. That is unless the "novelty" of the combination of genres you compile perks their interest.

One thing is styles, and one thing is methods.
If you use old computers to make music, that is amethod, not a style on itself. You mentioned that "the combination of styles" you mention always leaves you forgotten in a pile of others. Only you said this! wink

BOTH are marketing semantics, no two ways about it.

And where did I say that?
The difference is, I don't "arket" myself to anything like that. I develop myself in "regular" electronic music circles. You say you target people who want to hear videogame/chip music. I do not, it's just a side effect of the way I always made music (I just am oldschool and never upgraded, almost big_smile)

Fair enough. wink

3) I think you see it all as novelty, and assume that if you mention the tools of the trade you will be seen as a novelty. Why else would you have a chip on your shoulder about the topic? Oh wait, I know, to have a soapbox to stand on and be noticed...otherwise your music would do all the talking instead of you.  THAT is a music fail. wink

I didn't say it I see it as a novelty, for me it isn't. I said how you seem to "market  it". If you think I was saying your music sucks, there's obviously been a misunderstanding from your side. I was questioning the way you talk about it and how yu communicate it with others (I did this before in TCTD. Remember?)

Yes, I think we all agree the bottom line is that the music has to be good as a stand alone product regardless of what is used. I think that is the one thing we agree on. However, whats wrong with marketing to people who want chipmusic? Keep in mind, most people in the world have no idea this genre is here waiting for them. How will people who love classic game/computer sounds going to find this music? By your format, they will never find it.

I remember when I 1st found micromusic.net, I was like  "THIS is what ive been looking for, these are my people!" I want to help people discover all that chip has to offer in all its countless forms. You cant do that unless you tell people what you are using. Otherwise, its just more electronic music. I want to celebrate these sound chips, I dont want to hide them. Whats the point?

"This a gr8 tune"
"Oh thank you , I'm touched that you enjoy it so"
"Never heard anything like it, might make some myself! whats it made with?"
"im not telling"

Then chipmusic's distinctiveness is devoured by the "electronica" blob forvever...

If your only novelty is the instruments you use, then there's a fail with the music itself smile

1) Thats great, so when people hear you say your X style and they dont care about ANOTHER one of those band/artists they will forget about you. That is unless the "novelty" of the combination of genres you compile perks their interest.

2) I think you are hung up on the wrong issue. People who love guitar will perk up when they hear you play guitar. People who love chip sounds or game music perk up when you say you play X console/computer as an instrument. In my experience majority of people I talk to about it dont see it as a novelty. If you'll notice, video games are no longer just a pass-time for kids, its the largest entertainment industry in the world (next to pron lol). Not only that, it is now considered a well respected art form, much like our music genre is becoming as video games and their scores are part of most 10-40 year olds lives in our modern world. Just because you dont get respect from the general public doesnt mean that is everyone else's experience.

Respect smile

I say "we make modern music using vintage computers and game consoles as musical instruments. We do not sample music from video games, we make our own 100% original music with each device."

In the past when I've said "we make (pop/rock/dance/elektro/etc) music" and hope that turns them on, I'd be lost in a sea of "that" music and forgotten. When I mention the instruments, people get interested.

I just got an A1200 with 2gig HD. How do you get the WHD on a real amiga disk? Plus, WHD doesnt work for all games right?

Also, when I buy games off online stores/ebay half the disks dont work! Is this normal?

Got an address or url>?
