Join us at Backspace Monday August 22 for the tape release of Rechargeable Vol. 2 featuring the best of live sets from a year of structured improvisation and experimentation with battery powered music production.  The tapes are handmade, printed locally by HEATWAVE press.  Each comes with a digital download of the album from Tamarack Music's bandcamp page (plus bonus material from Battery Powered Music's guest artists).  Battery Powered Music is inching towards it's 1st year anniversary later this year and Tamarack Music is planing some exciting cassette tape releases from Ondoh, Ethernet and some brilliant European skweee and chip dub music productions on 7 inch vinyl.

This release represents the open form of the Battery Powered Music events.  A free flowing improvisation of grooves, effects, ambience, drums and keyboards all played on battery powered devices.  From our very 1st recordings outside Doug Smith's Rhythm Lab to the packed foyer of the Bagdad Theater, to board recordings of the full BPM Ensemble at our Backspace biweekly - the 60 minutes on this tape take you on a sonic journey through a year of experimentation.  Battery Powered Music extends the invitation to come play with us.  Music is a game, there are no rules only tools, and we have a bunch of fun little tools to play with.

Come jam with us and show off your stuff.

Inspired by “conversations, late night jam sessions, and months of headphone composition and production, Jesse Garcia, Elias Foley and an evolving cast of engineers, players, technicians and producers took these ideas and have been expanding upon them using ensemble based improvisation and collaborative development. Other notable founding members are Doug Smith, one of the founding members of Pink Martini, and Kranky recording artist Tim Gray (aka Ethernet).

Our goal is to support upcoming independent producers in an atmosphere of experimentation and co-creation that will encourage production of electronic music using affordable battery-powered instruments.

Battery powered music production is an expansion set for the well-established genre of chiptune. As for how this differs from chiptune…well chiptune was a genre built around that pulse wave sound of the 8 bit chips in the earlier gaming systems, handhelds and PCs. Battery powered music welcomes this rich classic sounds and also invites the polyphony of voices available in bent instruments/toys & the newer 16 bit battery-powered musical systems. We are interested in innovations in battery power, rechargeable technologies.

Plain Flavored was shy and devastating.  Really killed it!  Thanks.
The Full BPM Ensemble was in house with their monstrous micro mash.
I will post the live sets soon.

It's tonight!  Come on down!
