Have you tried Hextracker?  You can vary the mix rate to get > 4 channels on stock machines.  (and STE dma support)

Sploosh. From the looks of it, it seems to be based on PT 2.x? As in, can you switch samples mid-note by putting only a new instrument number in the column? And more importantly, why do I ask you when I can download it and check it out myself? Also, hello. Plus... Yeah. ERm. RED BUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLL. I really just wanna hear myself type right now. Yeah. So.... yeah.

Yeah I remember he did a lot of work on getting the playback accurate.  It plays samples from the loop point when you switch just the instrument number and so on.

You can download them here  The R5 ones, he always used an 8580 afaik.

To be honest though to get the full effect run the demos.

billboard here we come

One artist I don't think is very well known here is Kjell Nordbo, who sadly passed away in 2005.   He was (imo) one of the most inventive c64 musicians there has ever been.  He's also one of the most prolific yet maintained an incredible quality level throughout.

His work can be found in the High Voltage sids archive, but if you can run an emulator or hardware I suggest getting the original files.  His music collections were as much about the visuals as the audio, really closely tied together in his productions.

Yea I totally agree and get what you saying. I think once the gooch freed themselves from using actually chips on stage and in their music solely, they really took off to a next level and this success is a big result of that. I don't see this album or current live show happening to the degree it would ive they stuck to playing basement clubs with 25 year old consoles.

I was replying to Sketchman actually not commenting on the band.

"game consoles only"? what?

There's way too many people in that crowd to be a real chip event.

Also they're probably not other chip musicians.

Emulator users must have true drive emulation switched on / 'normal' disk loading.

probably a dumb question, but why?
(just curious!)

It uses a custom fast disk loader rather than the kernal loader.   The benefits are it loads songs faster and in the background while the current song is still running.

Compilation featuring music by Brandon Walsh, celticdesign, Mermaid, Redcrab, Stinsen, WertStahl, X-jammer and Zyron.

Hang on, why are people discussing hardware vs software again?   The "post-chiptune" or whatever you want to call it is about the music, not how you're writing it.

edit: can't be bothered to get into the hardware debate again.
