Yeah man! I remember seeing you outside The Tank, being super happy and surprised to see you, and feeling really bad for not talking to you cause I was all overwhelmed with trying to get everything together.

About the release:
On April 4th, 2009, I wrote the first song on this record; a post-it note featuring a crudely drawn arpeggiator became "Here Come the Pretzels!", a reference to watching The Simpsons with my family that inspired me to explore the autobiographical nature of home.
A tribute to project housing and salsa music became "Elevators". I synthesized the increasing acceleration of my cousin's Chevy Tahoe into the EP's title track. Most telling, however, is the album's central effort, a celebration of friendship named after one of many physical connections to my peers throughout Brooklyn: "Triborough Bridge". Indeed, while at first glance this seems to be yet another salute to the Bronx, a closer look reveals what's really being said underneath the raucous shouts of "BX ALL DAY": that it's time to fucking party with my friends. Let's GO!

I'd like one with a 1/4, please...and I might even like more in the future. Should I shoot you an e-mail or wait for you to contact me? Either way, I can be reached at dapantz [at] gmail [dot] com.

Looking forward to this; I've always liked Jonathan Baken's solo stuff and never been into the George & Jonathan combo. Thanks for sharing!

I think what I meant when I started the thread was 'how did you get your head around the software in the beginning'.
I figured this is what you meant, and it got some good responses so I'm glad...so let me answer your original question now!
It kinda just clicked for me when I started really focusing on creating instruments in the program instead of throwing notes together. IAYD was a huge help in that regard: he really supported me and taught me a few things about the program as far as instruments go. From there, everything just kept moving forward and I tried more and more new things! And I continue to do so.

Hate to be one of THOSE guys wrapped up in semantics, but I will be just to make the point I wanna make:
The DID in the thread title here throws me off. I think if anyone has already "learned" LSDJ, it's time to move on to a different platform. There's so much int he program, and so many new things to constantly learn, that people should really continue trying to do so.

These folks have been killin' it at the open-mic for quite some time, some for almost a year now.

Fuck writing "better" music. Write more interesting music.

Re: How to promote your music/yourself? (82 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I heard an analogy about this relating it to how it is finding romance: try too hard and it won't pan out, but be "real" and shit just kinda falls into place for you.
My first response, though, is to just work hard and focus on your craft. What is it that you want to do musically, and how are you going to do it? Ask yourself those kinds of questions.
What you can control as it relates to how people respond to you is really limited...and if you worry about it too much you'll just end up making dishonest music (which, yes, DOES happen in chip music too). That's why focusing first on your craft and being very intentional in that area is the most essential thing.
If you can do that, promotion becomes a lot easier because everything is already well thought-out, and it's easier to promote yourself naturally (not spammy), and people identify with it well. Promotion becomes a natural extension of you as an artist once everything else is locked down.
Am I making sense?

Bump 'cause taking some time away from this release and coming back to it really helped me appreciate it even more. Good composition all around.
