Proper anti static for motherboards, seriously lol. mine sit on whatever I stack them, they are tanks. never fried one. Computer ram, processors, that kind of stuff actually matters. the gameboys have enough grounds etc. Has anyone actually fried a board with static here?

Well, having been doing extensive console mods for years, I can say it's absolutely possible if you're in the right environment. Used to be really active on the Benheck portablizing forums and static victims were always a common problem, especially with certain boards like the N64.

Yeah either you picked a really bad example track from that album or you're right

Sincerely don't mean to sound snide, but did you listen to the entire song?

Probably shouldn't be decrying a mod you've only tried once that others have had great success with, including myself. tongue

Just like backlighting, it takes a steady hand, soldering experience, patience, and practice. Screwing up your first one, even for a semi-experienced modder, is pretty common. Not to mention that a lack of a proper anti-static environment can screw up motherboards left and right.

Play around with the value of the resistor you're using, give it another shot; I'm sure it'll work out eventually!

Bump some TreyFrey and don't look back.

Tribes looks awesome and the Cave Story recommendation was spot on, I played it two years ago and absolutely loved it!

Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming!

I know it was mentioned already, but if you liked Cave Story and Braid, Fez is so far up your alley it's been blocked in for weeks now by a new dumpster and some jackass in a Corolla and already has about $800 worth of parking tickets wedged under the wiper.

Play it. big_smile Provided it comes out for PC soon. sad

I second Fez and ZiGGURAT! A friend of a friend actually developed the latter title. Fun fact, I guess.

Oh, and if you happen to own a Wii or have a system decent enough to run Dolphin, definitely check out Xenoblade Chronicles. It's a really gorgeous, open-world RPG that took a LOT of fan involvement to finally get it released stateside, so if it's your cup of tea, showing NoA that there's a market for actual games on their system in North America by picking it up would be cool. Just sayin'. tongue

Oh, and Cave Story, if you haven't played it. Amazing.

Sounds like you have the exact same problem my backlit DMG has; does the contrast fade out, only to have you fiddling with it constantly to maintain a viewable screen? As Kitsch said, it's probably failing capacitors. A quick check with the multimeter revealed that to be the case, at least for me.

You might as well just replace all the caps while you're in there. They're ancient and bound to fail eventually. Especially since all of 'em can be had on the cheap.

If you're just starting out tracking and the 4-channel limitation on LSDj is too limiting, you might just wanna start with another chip-oriented tracker. Honestly, LSDj is a pretty intimidating and feature-intensive piece of software to jump right into for a lot of people, anyways. As others have already said, FamiTracker's a great place to start and want authentic chip sounds, as it's an NES-based tracker. Personally, I learned on FastTracker II, and it was a great jumping-off point. If it's good enough for Radix, it's good enough for anyone! big_smile

Got a spare DMG I don't need anymore. It's a clear DMG with an orange backlight from nonelectronics, complete with a 1/8" ProSound mod with the speaker still in tact. Asking $50 OBO, fairly open to music, chip, or game-related trades.

Pics to come.

College, video games, fapping... mostly fapping. >_>

We should definitely talk! big_smile I live in Ann Arbor at Metal Frat, we've been looking into booking chip artists for a few months now. Shoot me a PM!

Gotta be Galaxy Man's stage from Mega Man 9. So rockin'.

Not exactly chiptune, but Radix's newest project Mosaik is killer background noise if you need to whip up a paper on short notice.
