I've been making a track a day since Channukah started and am probably going to continue. I've been uploading them as I go and they are all available here:

http://soundcloud.com/chromacle/sets/channukah-madness/

They're all Channukah songs that I've remixed or covered or whatever, and you can download them and stuff.

Any and all criticism will be graciously ignored, because fuck you it's holiday music.

Here's one that's uploaded here:

Limit, compress and reverb the shit out of it.

careful about that, reverbing the shit out of things can make it just sound muddy.

I'm fairly certain that all of the information that you have been seeking in this thread is available elsewhere with just a little bit of searching. You are not anywhere near the first person to have asked these questions.

this is pretty interesting, it looks nice, but i'm curious to see if/how it would be preferable to just using a gameboy and a preamp

the work looks very nice though!

garageband really isn't good for creating chip music, but if that's what you're gonna use you'd be better off using the "digital mono" instrument rather than bitcrushing a normal instrument. because even if you bitcrush a piano to 8 bits, or what garageband calls 8 bits, that's just compressing one instrument, usually in chip music one instrument is just 1 bit, and when you try putting the bitcrusher down to 1 bit it just fucks up. really you'd be better off downloading a tracker of some kind and messing with that. the composition seems pretty solid, so i'd say work on getting something nice going soundwise. garage band just really isn't good.

Also I think bryface meant to link to this http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/3988/ … hip-music/

I'm not gonna bother updating to first post with all the stuff people are mentioning because there's just too many, but i'm glad people are bringing stuff up, definitely some stuff i had meant to check out but never did.

Other question: Does the intensity of your backlit screen also vary by intensity while starting a song. Mine becomes less strong while starting a song. When stopping it, the intensity gets brighter again. So, that has to mean It all got a little bit too heavy to process I think...

Fairly certain that's about power draw and processing and stuff, if it starts to get really dim when playing a song you should change your batteries.

Hello, here is a woefully incomplete list of chip music releases from 2011. These are the ones I have in my itunes starting with those most recently added. Feel free to reply with some that I've missed

The idea is that now we can all make our own little "best of 2011" lists or something

Pixls: btw, people like me and An0va play house parties on occasion. I've been asked to "dj" a few times last year (which usually goes from me playing my triphop / "dubstep" ableton shit into some sort of weird gameboy dance party, except people are actually dancing). I've also been playing my more ambient, noisy stuff at first friday art shows, though I am by no means the first, Animalstyle regularly plays art shows in philly and abroad. Pixel8ter has been playing more crossover shows as well, with people like EOTO, helping to spread the chipluv all around.
Lastly, I haven't been to one of his sets yet, but apparently Dj CUTMAN has been playing mid-size to large-scale raves.

Idk about you guys in other cities, but as far as philly goes we tend to play out and about. I never thought it was possible to ONLY play chipshows haha. Also, I like performing OFF stage and on the ground floor every once in a while wink makes me feel less like a zoo exhibit and more like a person just trying to give some good vibes.

word, I didn't mean to imply that the rest of philly performers don't play other types of shows, but I was just listing a few as an example

tl;dr philly rocks, the rest of y'all pay attention.
