Thanks Lazerbeat! One of these days I should get back to making FM chipmusic... hmm

fedepede04: Not bad hihats, but still rather clicky. Perhaps FM+filters could help. That crash sound reminds me of a grandfather clock or something. It's hard to get a nice complex cluster of overtones whilst also having a nice bell in FM cymbals. I guess oscillator detuning could help with that. That said, I don't think any type of pure synthesis can make a very nice pseudo-realistic crash cymbal yet...

that was(is) exactly my point.
when we are talking about kick drum, toms and synth toms, i think they are pretty easy to do,
but authentic hi hats, cymbal is another matter, even snare drums is hard to do if it shall sound authentic.
then control of the noise and sound is really hard to master, like you say impossible.

it was also the reason for that i was thinking of add samples to my program.
it was also my intention to added filters to the program, but it was something I never got around to do.
and other idea that i played with was, the waveform in my program is 1024 data long, if I took 1024 data from a eg. crash sampling and use it to do FM synthesis over.
but again it was something that i never got around to do.

btw i don't know exactly know how a grandfather clock sounds like big_smile big_smile big_smile
, but i also don't think that my cymbal sound like a crash cymbal, i think it sound more like one of the smaller cymbals

of cause i depend on the software you are using
but i don't think it is hard to make good drums using FM sound,
what i think that is the hardest is hi-hats, crash cymbals, and rides, all sounds that need metallic noise.

here is a FM drum beat using, my own program Power-Fm

nice! cymbals sound good/real.

Thx wink

hi
what i use to do was to take the audio out thou the 13 pin din (it is Pin 1)  I was using a TV at that time .look here http://info-coach.fr/atari/hardware/interfaces.php
later on then i got a monitor for it, i solder a wire to the plug, i use a scart plug in the monitor.

when i got a new Atari ST a couple of years back, i talk to a guy over at Ebay, that is making/selling cables and he could make a cable for me.
But instead of I bought a Atari STE so i never needed that cable.. but i think i can find the guy, that could make the cabel.

i think that the FM died with the dos-win98, most of the people that made music for the opl, don't do music any more, and like sandneil says you need a big old dos computer to get started, it is much easier for a newcomer to get a gameboy..

i love the sound of FM, and i think that you can do very much with very little, and i don't think it sound any cheesy, but many melody have the same type of sounds, but i see it more of that many use the same program, and maybe those program where limited in adding software function, and last many the user did not have the skill to do proper sounds.

Hi.
i have stop developing on the program, the program meet my needs,
and it does not look like any other use it, so no need to spend more time on it,

No problem

you can either click on the text call follow score, or use scroll lock.
it would advice you to look at the keylist file for the input language you are using.

Hi.
it look like there have been some problems getting sound out of the program,
so I have just upload a new version where i have change how the program initializing the directories the first time the program is started.

the score is build up by 3 parts, a score and a sound bank (with all the instruments) and a resource file, containing all cue points.
the resource file, have to be a the same place as your score...

how the program work when load a score

the program first look at the score position to see if there is a matching sound bank,
if not it will look in the startup directory.
or else it will look in the last directory, from where it loaded it's last sound bank,
and then the program is started for the first time it will fail on all 3 points.

so 3 thing you can do, move all sound bank into the same dir as the score.
the first time the program started, load a sound bank, (no matter which one)
or go to the option menu and defined some startup dir, so will it also always start there regardless where you exit the program.

as long there is some sound, then the program is working.

thanks guys
