right well i should have said but im studying music production so, to be completely honest, composition is not actually the main focus. dont get me wrong it still plays a part in the marking. i understand my music is very repetitive and dont get me wrong im as eclectic at the next person (not trying to sound pretentious) so i really need to work on that.

i believe this style of music can be defined as a genre and am trying to explain this in the writing part of my assignment. by simply saying its a means of writing music completely belittles every other style of music. its like saying 'im not writing rock music, im simply using a guitar as a means of writing music.' chiptune is just a word, but it explains the style of music i and we all produce. take dubstep for example, its broken down into a fusion between the genres dub and electro but we call it dubstep because of its defining sound. chiptune is similar as we can know its a fusion between electro and, most of the time or in my case, dance music but we can explain it in one word because of its defining sound.

hi guys, basically for my final uni project i've been given control over anything i want and I've chosen to write a chiptune EP mainly using LSDJ and possibly mssiah, if i can find a cheap and well working c64....

what I'm asking for, very kindly, is some genuine constructive criticism and feedback on each track i post.

the feedback will go towards the written aspect of my project to show, firstly, the quality of my work and, secondly, that there is a large and ever growing community dedicated to the genre.

i only ask of this as there is certain criteria needed to pass this assignment and I've strongly explained this genre to the class and would love for more people to appreciate the wonders of chiptune, as i know its not everyones cup of tea...

i will thank everyone who is kind enough to participate in advance and whenever i can and i look forward to all feedback given.

also, i haven't finished any tracks yet but here is a link to my soundcloud where there are a few work in progresses...(any track labeled 'chiptune' will be going towards the project...you can ignore the other tracks unless you want to have a listen?)

once again, thanks for reading and thanks for any feedback. its really appreciated!

yeah thanks yall, been lots of help...ive come to a conclusion, after many tests, and basically what ever cable im using, both mono and stereo, all panning to the right doesnt pick up at all! i think im gonna write this one off and just recorded it without panning on LSDJ but then cut out certain sections of the audio file in logic and pan them through that....not really keeping within the 8bit style but at least it will sound more dynamic than everything being centre panned....x

hmm well i have an array of jacks and cables but annoyingly maplins (UK) doesnt sell the cable you've posted in any of the shops ive been into, they even misinformed me...bastards....

basically im using a stereo 1/8" splitter which is plugged into separate stereo 1/4" adapters which are plugged into inputs 1 and 2 on the interface...

bloody technology...ill buy the cable later on.

and once again thanks for the quick replies...chipmusic.org members much nicer than 8bc.org...

wow well thats was a very fast reply, so thanks guys. i reckon ill try kinecturtle's idea first just to check its all working...if not well sucks for me as i bought the interface off amazon a while back so i cant get a refund...i just dont wanna have to record into my PC's line out like old times....i bought a mac, and logic, and an interface, and monitors for a reason sad x

i'd like to point out im a second year student studying music production, so in reality i should be able to solve this on my own...but i just cant!

right. i recently bought a usb interface, roland quad capture, so i can finally record my DMG in good quality. however when i set it all up, for some reason 1) all sounds without panning come out super quiet and all panned come out super loud
                           2) there actually is no panning heard from each monitor....

i know that each jack input on the interface is in mono and the gameboy is in stereo, so i decided to buy a 1/8" splitter that connects to each input, of course with 1/4" adapters. but again, no luck. im recording into logic pro and i have checked and messed around with each channel in mono and stereo...and no avail. i do get sound but even if the pan option in lsdj is set to either sides it only comes out of one monitor (always the right one?)

im almost at my wits end and am slightly regretting my purchased interface...whats more annoying is that i have a massive project to complete by may, which i havent started yet, because i cant get the recording right!

well, i should probably stop this rant. but please if anyone could help i would be forever grateful.

many thanks
