Never Forget

Seeing as we're fast approaching the 175th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, I thought I'd tell a Texas story. The first time there was an 8bitpeoples showcase at SXSW I was working the merch table. A gangly man with an ill-fitting t-shirt and an expression somewhere on the spectrum between indifference and palsy approached. He glanced over the CDs and t-shirts with what appeared to yours truly as complete bewilderment. He scratched at the bristly stubble sprouting unchecked from his scarlet neck just above his bouncing adams' apple. Had he accidentally wandered into this bar looking for a good old-fashioned jar of corn?

He looked me in the eye and said "Y'all got any Covox?"

Don't mess with Texas.

Yeah, Herr_prof gets laid for NOT playing the Game Boy. It's called compromise, suckas.

If I schlep all the way up from New York with Bit Shifter can I kill somebody and get on the bill?

Wordsworth made the point about limitations being inspirational very eloquently many years ago:

Nuns fret not at their convent's narrow room;
And hermits are contented with their cells;
And students with their pensive citadels;
Maids at the wheel, the weaver at his loom,
Sit blithe and happy; bees that soar for bloom,
High as the highest Peak of Furness-fells,
Will murmur by the hour in foxglove bells:
In truth the prison, unto which we doom
Ourselves, no prison is: and hence for me,
In sundry moods, 'twas pastime to be bound
Within the Sonnet's scanty plot of ground;
Pleased if some Souls (for such there needs must be)
Who have felt the weight of too much liberty,
Should find brief solace there, as I have found.

I got really excited because I have a new bath robe and I thought we were going to have a group shvitz. But i have no idea what you guys are talking about.

I wish there was an LSDJ kit that taught me how to sing like Loleatta Holloway.

It is!

(I think — right?)

Oh yeah! I guess it is. Although that "Good Vibrations" sample is originally from the Loleatta Holloway brilliant disco classic "Love Sensation."

I thought it was going to be this kind of kit:

I could do the Bloodiest night. Last time I performed I ended up tearing out several clumps of my own chest hair while exhorting the audience to shave certain body parts during my cover of Fad Gadget's "Lady Shave." I was hoping I'd be asked to play more shows afterward, but so far I haven't been and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
