Searching "moral codec faliure" gives this exact general discussion page as a result...so that isn't a good way to get an idea of what to draw haha.

Try "moral code failure" instead wink

Don't forget about youtube

Just do what you want. Whatever you feel works for you. If it's not working for you do something else.

If he's using wave channel for that whiney mosquito sound in Daisy (pretty sure it is), but I've gotten similar sounds out of the wave channel by just messing around with stuff. I'll have to check out my projects so i can see what i did, lol.

Don't forget about vibrato and stuff, too. Hi frequency.

You're welcome.

Darn... I still have my samples from the last stockwave that I didn't get to participate in, haha. Was hoping I'd get to reuse those for the next time. Oh well. Count me in (and i'll try not to miss it this time again again)

Trying to figure out what a pixel landscape with a sunset has to do with moral codec failures. Maybe add a cowboy riding off into the sunset away from a lawless town. While facepalming.

Edit: IDK maybe I'm looking at this wrong but... this thread... eh, nevermind...

I do have a friend who is great at doing pixel-art landscapes, but idk how he'd feel about not being properly commissioned. Actually he might be fine with it. Who knows. I'll ask.

Got the music. The graphics. And now the words. Good times.

Lesson to take away:

Internet will be a constantly evolving circle jerk. Sometimes better than others. Try not to worry about it so much, your favorite site might disappear tomorrow, but the people remain the same.

You should really make an effort to go to some shows or festivals. That's how you feel the magic, that's how you really find great artists.  Lots of people travel cross country or internationally for fests. Calmdown Kidder came from the UK for 8static and I'm sure he had an incredible time, despite the expense.  I know it can be hard and scary, but no risk no reward.

but aren't you just asking people to join your circlejerk? you seem to be saying "guys, the internet is shit, but come to un-named chipmusic event and be one of the in croud who don't need internet communication method anymore"

jerking in person vs. jerking over text on the internet are very different experiences, I'd reckon. To borrow the analogy.

And also I'd like to point out that e.s.c. and danimalcannon, though they are singing the praises of live show attendance, are also using the internet to participate in this conversation. Balance.

+1 to all of that ^ but especially this:

i think physical events are needed because they allow yourself to step back, humble yourself, and appreciate the things that made you inspired by it in the first place. they allow you to stop finding the negatives or finding a way to criticize and also allow you to become motivated by the things that worked and and have worked

I've noticed this myself when going to live events of various sorts.

It's been awhile since I've used LSDj so i don't remember the exact numbers involved. I use the TSP column instead of S Commands for whatever reason. In my mind basically you have four classes of noise sounds. Deep crunchy ones for kicks, high ones for snare, and even higher ones for cymbals, and the periodic sounds for bzzzzzzzzzzzzt noises and ride bells, lol. And everything in between.

If you sweep from a lower sound to a higher sound it has kind of a *fwap!* whip-like feel to it that can be more powerful than your standard "mario" snare, hehe. Combined with Victory Road's method of putting a periodic click on the attack or something. But Like i said i don't remember the actual numbers for it.
(aw... i just realized this mp3 didn't even upload completely)

I probably use too many commands on my noise channel tables for a DMG to handle, haha. I think the snare in that sweeps through most of the four sound categories i named earlier.

Edit:
Just for the sake of being thorough, here are two examples with my pulse+noise snare

(it comes in after the break near the end)

I know this thread is for noise channel snares only, but you had mentioned you needed to be able to keep your wav channel available so I'm just throwing out other options. Sorry I can't provide you with the actual patch at the moment.

Edit:

Ah! I thought I had linked this in my first post. Joe McAlby doing some crazy noise+wav kick/snare/bass stuff without it really interfering with the bassline.

I'm not a part of any of the chiptune facebook groups anymore though. I tried early on but there's a lot more noise and pointless crap to sift through than on here.

the big one (i.e. chipwin) has gotten a lot better in that regard in the last few months, but social media in general is all about brain farts and talking shit. but yeah i still like this forum cause it's usually more curated and informative. seems like i should check ucollective more often tho?

If nobody ever checks it there will be nothing there for anyone to check.

That bass is so deep my cheap pc speakers woofer can barely feel it sad

Oh yeah. Periodic noise is really fun. Cuts through pretty nicely. Incorporate that into your snares for real, yo. I need to finish my lsdj stuff from last year >.<

The things that I like to do: Using deeper tones for my snare. Try going from a deep tone to a higher tone. It makes a nice thwack sound. Make it smack you in the face, whip you in the butt. *FW'PAH! *

I personally enjoy noise+pulse snares, a la C64 (but i make mine less sneezy sounding) (my song "Brittle" on here has that). Also if you don't mind a "side-chain" style effect, you can go ahead and keep in the 909 samples sometimes and just have the bass "fade" in and out whenever the snare hits. I hear them gameboy EDM people do that all the time.

Or instead of noise+pulse, you can do noise+wav and make a table for your wav bass that has an attack that layers over your noise snare to give it more body. You can make the attack short enough that the bass note won't be noticeably absent. Check out this very convincing wav+noise kick/bass/snare work, dude :o
Edit: oops, forgot the youtube link.

Joe McAlby doing some really cool noise+wav kick/snare/bass stuff on Gameboy Color without it really interfering with the bassline. That snare sounds awesome. Basically sounds like an lsdj kit sample, but since he designed it manually from the ground up he has more freedom to quickly reincorporate the bassline into the sound after the attack without being stuck with switching between either "wav notes" or "kit samples".

Feel free to search the forum for LSDj drum patches. I know we've had a few threads where people posted their settings or screenshots of their instruments.
