hmmm. Seems interesting. Looks promising... I will download this on faith. No preview links or nothing, though? No soundcloud, youtube, cm.o...? (To be fair, I did check out one of the previews you uploaded here. That ukulele sounds real nice. Real nice.) At least link your previews into the OP so people won't be downloading blind (which they won't, unless they know and like you and your music already).

All the Saskrotch posts I've seen are always sincere and from the heart, no matter how brutish and vinegar-coated.. It's always the real deal, and usually the truth. Not trollish at all.

I'm doing what little bit I can to spread the word about this project </relevant>

Ironic that the original more general thread title would have actually been more appropriate for this thread than the specific title it has now. "Missing musicians" or something, was it?

I'm not going to draw the obvious connection here, because that would be unfair.

I really like this. It's so chill and open. There's repetition, but it's the good kind. That's really what kept me listening. The melody never lands in exactly the same spot from which it takes off within a single phrase, and that is a big plus for me.

I genuinely like this from top to bottom. Good stuff.

On a more directly-addressing-the-OP-note, here are some links I found on google "glitch art tutorial"

http://danieltemkin.com/Tutorials/
http://phillipstearns.wordpress.com/gli … resources/
http://blog.animalswithinanimals.com/20 … -part.html

Those look pretty informative.

Through WordPad I tried copy+pasting from one of my mp3s into an image, but it just came out as half-noise/half-original-image. Now I'm afraid I might break something if I do too much stuff like that. I want to try pasting the data of an mp3 in-between the top and bottom (which i assume is header-footer informatoin?) and see what happens... is this dangerous?

This is pretty cool. It doesn't really sound like VGM at all to me, but as a modern chiptune cover it's really good.

$6000 giggle?

I don't understand. This sounds like a pretty cheap cost for a game.

If you read the info on the kickstarter, the $6k is to cover their living expenses for the summer so they can work full-time on it and not have to work summer jobs(one of them is a full-time student).

This sounds reasonable.

pros use hex editors wink

But think about it... using a process such as Audacity or WordPad is truly embracing the spirit of glitch, right? It's just so wrong.

No, I'm joking. Hex Editor is how the pros do it, but the other methods are fun for experimenting with editing pictures as a completely different form of media rather than arranged bits of data.

Edit: off-topic, but I've been glitching .mods by opening them in SoundClub, saving them as SoundClub files, and then exporting them back as .mod files. SC's mod export is broken, so it creates some... interesting effects.

I just got started doing this kind of stuff with WordPad. It's pretty fun, typing in random stuff and copying parts of the file into other sections and stuff, or pasting parts of other files into it. Good times.

The simplest way to glitch a photo is to open it in WordPad, then simply save it. Make sure you have a backup copy, though.

@Another Castle: Step 7 should be "save", right?

I like how the art is imperfectly scaled-up.

Looks like this one just barely slipped under the "no voting" radar?

In any case, this looks really cool.

since youtube is a google company now, is otromatic[at]gmail[dot]com not linked to him somehow just by some default process?  (at the least, a working email he would be able to access, hopefully forwarded to one he checks)

Nope, not necessarily. While all YT accounts have to be linked to a Google account nowadays, there's no guarantee that the names match.

This may just be a DNS configuration error. The domain doesn't have any entries, but the page is still online on the IP address 194.150.236.81. You could add

194.150.236.81 ilbm.info www.ilbm.info

to your hosts file to be able to access it. However, it's only a front page with some of his art and... a contact address. ink at ilbm dot info. However, this address will also be dead as long as the domain is misconfigured. However, he still owns the domain, and looking at the whois records, you can find a contact e-mail address.
http://who.is/whois/ilbm.info

Full stop.

I suspect this is a hardware issue, and the problem would not carry over to emulators.  Is that the case?

It drifts when I run it in BGB on my computer (which isn't a very powerful one). Sometimes I'll record wav output of the same song twice, and one will be a bit longer or shorter than the other.

Manual sync seems like a disservice to any material you care about.

From what I'm reading, he's just using it for transitions, so if he can make it work it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. You've got to work with what you've got, especially when there's no other solution.

I like it. It has a certain mystique. I don't really understand the point of it (I thought it was just to get members for a grade), but it's interesting enough to make a post or two.

I never liked any of the stock fonts much. These are a welcome change.
