I'll edit the title back, and do a rewrite of the body then - leaving out the voltage regulator stuff. I'll just make the whole thing more general.

I kinda blew up the original title and question because I got embarrassed by the initial response. I was missing something, because I don't know much about electronics. I basically just went to the Wikipedia page for AA batteries and was going off of that. I was also finding posts on other sites from people saying the 1.2V batteries wouldn't work at all, so I thought it was a bigger problem than it actually was. Then talking to a friend about the discrepancy they mentioned going over or under was bad for electronics, so I was just getting frustrated since I didn't know what a voltage regulator was.

The good is, I now feel comfortable getting some rechargeable ZR6 batteries.

I'm wanting to switch from disposable batteries to rechargeable batteries. However, there are several types of AA batteries, and I was having trouble finding a lot of information about what some really good batteries would be for an original Gameboy.

What batteries do you use in your DMG? Are there any advantages to disposable AA batteries over rechargeable AA batteries?

Hooray!

i have made several templates.

the issue i found was that even printing on the different printers i had access to, using a template didn't assure the same alignment.

then again, i'm not sure how to go about making a template that adapts to printer settings.  the most I was doing was aligning the pictures according to measurements, which printed inconsistently.

i can post a picture showing the layout of the stickers, they're symmetrical and maybe someone with more word processor knowledge can make something.  would that help if i posted a dimensional drawing showing how the sheet is split?  its 8 sections, basically...

if someone knows a solution to the issue i encountered - inconsistency in alignment between printers - or just has a lot of exposure with template making for a widely used software (word, etc), i'd be up for sending a sheet to you if you'll send back said template!

I think i may know someone to ask about this. I'll see what they say, and send you a PM if they have suggestions or are willing to help.
