Broken beat was already a thing.
But in seriousness, if you want to do Big Beat, do Big Beat. Being an individual and using a mindset (and gear) 20 years removed from the original means it's certain to take on a flavor of its own, and once that happens, it'll be called whatever people feel like calling it.

I feel same... With new instruments and 8bit samples "New Big Beat" or any name that will people give it in future will really gets brand new sound...

I will make some PCBs for TinyBoy (ATtiny85 mini game handheld)
but new version with dpad (4 buttons) and one fire or with mini joystick.
And maybe audio jack as audio out connector.
