Oh My, came in the mail the other day. Playing with the X2 via the USB midi in, sounds GOOOD! I liked the S1 but this monster is in another league. Thanks Serge sounds great

Re: GenMDM Help! Midi / USB not working! (3 replies, posted in Sega)
The tones show that the cart is booting. OSX should be fine, it handles midi better than Windoze. Does a port show up in OSX? Kind of sounds like there is a short and the PC is shutting down the USB port. Try plugging in the Teesy without the cable to the Sega. If no power error message, check you joypad connection. If you still get the error message, check the board for a short. If that looks OK, then you might have to buy a new teensy and load the last firmware. But do try reloading your current Teensy first.
good luck, yogi

Re: What happened to schismtracker.org? (98 replies, posted in Other Vintage Computers & Consoles)
Iv'e been using the Sep 18th 2016 build on an RPi2 with Jessie and haven't seen this with the ALSA driver. Perhaps you can try an older build, there may have been a bug introduced in the later builds (?).

You might also ensure that Jack isn't running as it seems to block ports from ASLA.

i knew i was dreaming too high; thanks anyway rumpelfilter!
You might want to look in to Carla, it's a VST host and is ported to the RPi.
And there is a more complex RPi2 project , Zynthian
http://blog.zynthian.org/index.php/2015
thian-box/
It's a standalone soft synth host platform to simplify and unify the GUI for a number of linux synths and VSTi and LV2 plugins. It had been using Carla but they are switching to MOD-UI and MOD-Host for plugin hosting.

So search didn't turn up any hits, so I'll ask here. Did anyone get Klystracker to build on RPi2? I get 2 errors on many GUI objects. Using the Deb Jessie packages
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-dev
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-2.0-0
sudo apt-get install libsdl2-image-dev
I get many
" warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size [-Wint-to-pointer-cast]"
on
slider, file_list_view, flip, checkbox, button_event, button_text_event, spinner
and many
"error: cast to pointer from integer of different size [-Werror=int-to-pointer-cast]"
on
songinfo1_view, songinfo2_view, songinfo3_view, playstop_view, info_line, write_command, program_view, inst_field, instrument_name_view, instrument_view, instrument_view2, instrument_list, fx_name_view, fx_global_view, fx_view
Looks like a problem with SDL2_image for armhf (?) Any tips or this is just a 'no go'
Yogi
EDIT: so I checked the view.c source where these errors are. Seems that it's MAKEPTR() that the compiler doesn't like. Google search didn't help, seems to be a macro but no idea why the armhf GCC doesn't like it.

Siegfried wrote:What do you mean if you say "REAL"? Thank you for explanation...
The gameboy doesn't have a dedicated, stand alone sound chip. All sounds are generated from the gameboy cpu.
I would add that to use the GB 'PSG' you need to have the GB CPU writing values to the internal registers. Unlike the SID that is a dedicated chip interconnected to the C64 CPU with an external buss on the PCB.
Nintendo used this same integrated design on the Famicom and NES, so you see the midiNES and Chip Maestro projects that control the 2A03 CPU in order to produce sound. These take advantage of the cart port bus interface to exchange data with the 2A03 CPU.
In the SID's case you can recreate the the needed bus signals with any microcontroller to make it produce sound. But for the GB, you would need to have the GB CPU running some code that 'talks' to an external microcontroller and manages the internal 'PSG' register writes.
So you are better off using/developing software like nanoloop or LSDJ that talks to external controllers via the existing ports.

Oh that's tasty Can't wait for some sound samples and specs, really loved the X1 and S1 reviews from Phil.
The news of the X2 really comes at an interesting time for me; I've been working on a Midibox synth project (the Goom synth port) and planning on including a GM voice into it. ATM, the SAM carrier prototype uses a Fluxamasynth shield ( Have an S1 also but wanted to use the shield for something). The carrier board also has a MB IIC-Midi circuit for the interface to a Core32.
These Dream synth chips are very cool as they accept TTL midi directly so it's very easy to build a standalone tone module. But my aim will be to add some CS controls and midi filtering/routing to allow direct changes to some synth prams on the fly.
Once I get a code framework better defined, will be changing the carrier board for the waveblaster header. I assume the X2 will adhere to the the same pinning?

Very good to hear about the X2; have been drooling for an X1 but will have to wait for this new board. Have a couple of the old SAM2195 boards which sound very nice, but would love to upgrade.
Really like the addition of the 'chip' sound bank and Pokey instruments would be very cool. As well as a SID bank and maybe a AY 3-8910 set?
Will be watching 8)

Ok so there obviously aren't any super solid demos out there right now so I whipped this up to get a feel for it.
MAN this kicks a$$! This so makes me want to get into a DMG. I've restricted myself to thrift store finds and DIY projects for the most part BUT Nanoloop Mono IS the "killer app". Guess my xmas list just got bigger

Re: So you wanna rock out with MS-DOS/SB16? (161 replies, posted in Other Vintage Computers & Consoles)
Hey dudes. I have been making music on real hardware. An IBM PS/2 with a Sound Blaster 16. Here is an example:
It's been really fun but I'd really like to sequence my PS/2 externally using my Atari ST. I can't seem to find a dos program that is intended for using a Sound Blaster PC as a synthesizer. Everything I can find is a tracker that integrates synthesis and tracking or something that can play only a single MIDI channel (1 voice) at a time over MIDI.
Does anyone know of a program that would work for me?
thanks!
Very nice videos Will definitely be looking into Audio Sim, looks cool.
As to using DOS PC as synth you might want to check out AdlibTracker II, the G3 ver 2.3.52 build has midi support and I think sort of midi synth mode.
http://www.adlibtracker.net/downloads.php
There is Frequency Monster 801, but it's Win98/XP. It's more of a full on synth frontend.
