I will probably never take the time to use this but it is very cool!

an interesting feature of kk_gb_8m is its ability to provide another channel of sound via an onboard monophonic Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS).

here are the specifications for controlling the DDS.

recordings soon!

So.. I need a special version of LSDJ for this? wink

You broke a pin in the brown ribbon cable that is at the bottom of the LCD. It's not fixable. This is a fairly common problem when installing a backlight.

ASM said it best. The main difference is that in my kit the IC is safely mounted to a PCB so that you don't have to solder directly to the pins and risk over heating, breaking or bridging the pins. Also the Hex DMG kit specifically is very easy to install into a DMG because it mounts right to the back of the main PCB and then you only need two wires. The entire kit is hardly bigger than the HC04xx IC that other companies sell but so much easier to solder to due to full sized solder pads.

I seriously cannot wait for my black and white parts to come in!

If you wire the 1/8th" jack to the volume potentiometer backwards this should resolve the issue.
That way when you turn the volume in one direction, the 1/8" jack will get louder, and when you turn it the other way then the speakers will get louder.
Make sense?

This won't work. The pot doesn't work like that. If you install a prosound pre-pot then your prosound will always be full volume and you could then turn your speaker down with the volume pot. This is how all of my personal Game Boys are done.

Never mind. It's just massive. And massively exciting!

prime wink what are the button functions?

Thanks! They still have the tactile feel but only the A button does anything. It's the mode switch.

Awesome. I like the Arduino Boy kit. Come out with an SMT one at half the size and I'll be all over it! Though I'll probably be done with mine by then..

That's a solid design right there.

It won't change the data. Only the frequency. If I understand what you're asking correctly.

Thanks man! Definitely the most difficult backlight mod I've ever attempted. I had to completely desoldering one side of the ribbon cable, strip the LCD then solder it back together. The cable is very fragile. I'm confident that I will be able to master the technique on my next attempt using a hot air station.

The simple clock swap is the best news for these though! These things have a really great sound in my opinion.

Nice choice of kit wink Sorry about the resistor problem. Glad it was easy to remedy! That's part of the idea of having the through holes as well as an SMT spot. Very easy to change out.

Maybe you should point out that red and orange are crossed over in a DMG-04 cable, since obviously in on one end goes to out o the other.
Then there's the name "SD", which can be confusing. The name SD comes from GBA link cables. The name is normally not actually used for any kind of serial data in 8-bit GB hardware. The official name for this pin for 8-bit generation hardware is the slightly more cryptic P14. This is the name of the CPU pin it's connected to in a DMG; which is an output related to reading the state of the buttons.

Great! Thank you so much! I will update this soon! "SD" was the most ambiguous name to find. "Serial data" seemed the most common so I went with that. Because "SO" and "SI" are "serial data in" and "serial data out" which makes "serial data" an odd name.

I realized shortly after I posted it that I should make a few notes at the bottom on how "SO and "SI" need to "cross" for a link cable("out" need to connect to "in") as well as how a DMG-04 cable can be modified by moving the ground pin to the 5v pin as the shield is directly connected to ground and does a fine job. Essentially making the less common DMG-07 cable a non necessity for powered applications such as PS2 keyboards and Arduino Boys.

hey justin, have you backlit one yet? wink

I should be getting one next week. The first mod I'm going to try is tuning it to standard so any chip tune composer can use it with ease. After that it will be prosound mods. I ordered one specifically so I could learn how to modify them for kitsch-bents customers(at his request).
