I thought your post was a joke until I used the power of Google Image search.

I've had a few of those. They may be rare but who in the hell wants one of these really?!?

Hello!
I'm always looking to buy Game Boys. ALWAYS.

I'm looking for:
Original Game Boy(DMG): Any color, any condition.
Game Boy Color(CGB): Any color, any condition.
Game Boy Pocket(MGB): Perfectly working LCDs, otherwise any cosmetic condition.
Game Boy Advance(AGB): Working, any cosmetic condition.
Game Boy Advance(AGS-001): Preferably broken so I don't feel bad about using the LCD for frontlight mods.
DS (NDS, DSL, DSI): Any color, any condition.

Feel free to respond here. If you're serious about a transaction then PM me. If you actually want to sell me something then e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks!

What ASM said but simpler. Just don;t cut the ground wire and you'll be good. No need to solder a new ground.

Interesting, wonder why Toyota had a Gameboy?

Found this earlier today. I like that red shell but not so much into Astro Boy.

That one is actually far more common than this Toyota one. It would be interesting to know how many of these Toyota pockets were made as well as other corporate ones like Thomas and Betts and such.

I love these rare little promo items.
I figured I would share:

I would never pay this but it's hard to put a value on an item like this!

one other thing i've considered is to have a couple of spare cheapo GBs ready to loan/give to people who are interested in writing chipmusic but find it hard to obtain a GB.  i just think it'd be nice to do as a gesture of chip evangelism.

chip evangelism +1

I've actually already offered to lend one GB to a friend.

The GB pocket is quite useless isn't it? ... short battery life, bad sound, ... does it have any benefits besides size? I can get a black GB pocket  for free which I will probably take just to play around with, but I don't see a reason to keep it really. Is there any?

Game Boy Pocket is my favorite! I use DMGs live because they're a bit stronger but I write on MGBs.
Better looking LCD, sharper contrast and more true to a black/white monochrome color so when you backlight it you actually see the correct color rather than it being tinted by the DMGs LCD.
The sound is just fine. Not quiet as bassy but if you're using a mixer than there's really nothing to worry about.
Yeah battery life sucks compared to a DMG but thats why I have multiple sets of rechargeable batteries. One set on charge while the other is being used. Plus there is no compatibility issues with the newest 64m Smart Cart.

SPs do have a nice backlight! But that reminds me. I have two MGBs as well because they're more comfortable to write with and the LCD is easier on the eyes.

Interesting!

So why would you need more than 3 gameboys?

Personally, I have 3 LSDj carts and some songs require all of them at once. One Game Boy for Music Tech and one for Trippy-H. I also rock Cynthcart. So depending on how rich I want it to sound or which device I'm playing along with it makes sense to have one Game Boy per cart so I don't need to switch them out. All my personal Game Boys are very minimally modded though. Just backlights and prosounds. My Trippy-H Game Boy has a Variable Clock v2 for bending the "samples". And my Music Tech Game Boy has a Kitsch-Bent Easy_CLK half speed switch so I can play two octaves live.
That's why I have so many smile

I was given the option of a clear or a yellow DMG by a friend a few years back. I took the yellow.

That's because yellow looks much nicer wink

I've just stumbled across the synthboy+ kickstarter page http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/763704741/synthboy which lists differently colored game boys at different pledge levels. If this can be trusted a possible ranking would be:

grey <-- easy to find
--------
green <-- harder to find
yellow
red
--------
clear <-- yet harder to find
black

which would be similar to what parallelis said.
not listed on there:

blue <-- I guess even rarer than the others
--------
white <-- I know these are near impossible to get

edit: actually added link to kickstarter page

This is fairly accurate just from my own experience.
I would say yellow is more rare than green and red. But black is far more rare than clear.

Are they really that much nowadays? 10/20 euros seems massively expensive for a Game Boy!

Yes. The pric ha steadily been going way up for the last year. It really sucks.

I just have to say this is one of my favorite kits I've done yet. I've installed so many now and it's very easy considering how difficult it is without a PCB.

just mentioning older video game consoles means you've got to listen to everyone's story about their old coleco/intelli/whatever-vision.  and how it might or might not work anymore...

say, Justin, how do you take care of any scratches on the cases? your finished pieces look brand new.

I clean them with warm water and mild soap if necessary. I don't sell any cases that are in bad condition by any means. A lot of times scratches look much worse than they are though because dirt has been ground in over the years. So cleaning them makes them go away!

My description is usually pretty long.. I tell most people that wouldn't be interested that I fix video game consoles.
Other wise:
"I modify vintage video game consoles for the purpose of retro gaming and musical composition"
