have fun.. if you aren't already in the nanoloop facebook group, you should join.. it's an good place for any questions you may end up with once you start working with it. i'm a big fan of the 2.x versions, can get some great sounds out of it if you take the time to experiment

in my experience, it's fine.. i have both a 001 (NES classic) & 101 (graphite) that i use and have also had 2 micros, a ds lite and now am on my 2nd og ds.. while the sound is a little cleaner on the ds lite, i'm picky enough for recording that i still run noise reduction and there tends to be almost no difference over a PA.. i also prefer the form factor of the gba sp over the ds models, though the micros were obviously nice for that too... nanoloop 2.x is at least stable enough in it's clock speed that you can get away without the sync cable (no drift that i've noticed, even over 2-3 hr jam sessions), but i'd still rather have it considering the relatively small difference in noise levels... agree that i don't think it's worth the work to prosound either gba sp model
edit: forgot to add that you can start and stop nanoloop 2.x by putting it into slave mode when there is no link cable connected. when you return to internal clock, it starts again with the first note in the sequencer

it's probably got SOME noise. even on the better of my two modded DMGs there's a very subtle hiss that you might not notice without headphones and/or really good ears.. i 've had really good hearing for years, so i tend to notice sounds a lot of people might miss.. hell, i used to be able to hear if a CRT tv was on (while just set to an input with nothing in it, so black screen no audio) by the slight hum from 25 feet away through a closed door

the slight dimming of the backlight is likely due to the way the power save feature works in lsdj. from what i remember, (i rarely use lsdj), it helps preserve battery life by using less power when nothing is playing, but ramps up as soon as you hit play

moved to the "audio production" section

to answer your questions: i'd imagine most people do at least some mastering after recording. for me, that means 3-4 passes of noise reduction (because i have good enough hearing to notice even a super low level of hiss and it drives me nuts), some EQ and mild compression (usually have the ratio at around 2:1).. when appropriate i'll multitrack things

Yes, old SID only. Perhaps also on new SID with digi fix, not sure about that.

you have that backwards, he said he'd want to join the communist/anti-capitlist resistance, if it were actually part of the scene.. he's right about the fact that lots of people in this scene tend to dismiss anything resembling someone expressing a strong opinion on pretty much anything as "drama", most of them would rather just post memes over and over

when the scene is ready to stand up and be political and idealistic i'm ready to be the part of the post-punky nuclear-holocaust, global-transcorp obsessed commie half of the movement. fuckin folks spent a good few years memin it up and talking down strong opinions about chiptune as drama, perhaps cos there were so many kids involved, no malice zo, who cares

can we make demozines and get fucking noisy with handheld composition/blockading devices and alert each other to local shitheads who needs protesting now

yeah, that's never fun.. much easier to do it with a hardware mixer if you can spare the channels

yeah, each stereo channel also works in mono if you only plug one cable in to the L jack.. so with that mixer you could plug one game boy's outputs into channel 1 & channel 2, and a second one with one channel into 3/4's L and the other into 5/6's L..

i'll upload zips of both and pm you the links
