it's important to comprehend:

Excellent points and I think this is true too..learn too much theory and you feel like you have a list of rules to follow. I remember reading in an interview with Radiohead like forever ago, that the other more musically trained members of the band used to try to "protect" Thom Yorke from learning too much about the "rules" of music, since he always brought a unqiue perspective to song writing. I've always tried to hear something in my head and then create it, instead of thinking, I'm gonna use this scale or this type of progression..

On the charts so I can get that $$$. That's right, THREE DOLLARS.

LOL! Do it for the love of music, and the three dollars...

I get a huge kick each time one of my songs comes out in a game. It's rarely chiptunes though...I've talked one or two developers into making their game 8-bit styled just so I can do some megaman knock off music big_smile

I loved music my whole life. It started out with guitar and bass which my dad always had laying around the house. I learned by copying what I heard in other songs, and then figuring out how to put things together, after that getting mario paint lead me into composing...rest of story here. big_smile

I don't really know music theory or how to read it, I mostly learned by recreating songs I liked as practice and then trying to put down what I hear in my head into tracks...

Just doubled my donation!

I'm from the midwest and it actually inspires me a lot. Lots of my stuff is really mellow and sad-ish because when I make music I think "will this sound good driving in my car at 2AM down roads surrounded by corn fields?" It'd be swell if I could be part of this, I have no money to help the cause though sad

I totally know what you mean about cornfield-surrounded roads, grew up in Howell, MI myself...I can't think of any chiptune that i'd want to listen to in that setting.. so I'd love to hear what you create! I was always listening to secret of mana soundtrack while driving in the woods, it always seemed more appropriate. big_smile

Just sent in my track and donated some dollas...

More good stuff, I have of course heard Anamanaguchi, they're good but I tihnk theres tons of other good stuff out there just waiting to be discovered and so far this thread has proved me right. I think there needs to be more bands like Kanagawa! that etherial shoegaze + chiptune style has tons of potential!!

That cat head will haunt my dreams...

Revengineers are super good. Kind of reminds me of solar powered sun destroyer with no lyrics and NES leads, I think part of what makes them great is even if you took out all the chiptune elements those are still super great songs. Seriously, the best $5 i spent on music in a while. So glad everyone has been sharing, I'm finding tons of stuff!

ALLP did the trick, I ended up settled on:
Start:
39
04
01
10

Seemed to get that double octave sound a bit more!

Everything else stays the same, maybe this will help. HighPitch just sounds to dirty in my opinion.

Thanks!! Going to try it now!!

Don't use no$gmb. Use BGB.

I actually usually use Gamebatte but I knew no$ let me toggle the channels individually...just sticking with what I know, but i'll check out BGB...

Hmm, I know how to do that with Genesis emulation but not with gameboy...I'll try to look for info on that..
