As for giging I live in Midwestern Kansas so shows are small venues and it's not very hard for me personally to bring a monitor and a Mac mini over a macbook. Also having everything being modular with a mini is nice because if one thing breaks you are not f'd like an all in one unit such as a macbook or iMac.

@jefftheworld the advantages are 16GB of ram not costing $300 since apple solders ram into the new MacBooks. Also the minis have faster processor options than the 13inch MacBooks at a fraction of the price.

@kitsch yeah I actually think I am going to go the mini route. It's easy to upgrade yourself and even maxed out much cheaper than a macbook that is totally unupgradable except for the hard-drive. I could get a nice thunderbolt monitor for home use and a decent cheap one for gigs and still have a more powerful computer than a macbook and it would still cost less.

Thank you! Exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I have actually been eyeballing the iMacs as well. Curious about how easy/hard it is to move them around if need be?
I have a love hate with the new lineup. Hate that I can't replace the parts love the hardware. The 15inch retina MacBooks are a wonderful piece of hardware. oddly enough I really am most impressed with the 13inch MacBook Air. Can get an i7 in them and they are stupid fast (pcie flash etc).
I ended up going imac due to graphics power, but it was between that and the retina 15"
As far as a windows based recommendation, acer makes some pretty solid 13-15" laptops at a very good price. fanboys will hate but they seem to be very good to me

It's easy to say "don't buy apple products". If you don't like apple offer a windows laptop you think would work well. I think the apple vs windows vs android fan battles are silly. I love explaining how android tablets have about 4 audio apps to people looking into buying tablets. Each brand has positives and negatives in my opinion.

I'm looking into getting a MacBook Pro Retina to run ableton and a couple of midi fighters. I like the 13inch size but all the non upgradable parts(ram included) leave me wondering what I should buy? This will be an audio only computer so gaming beyond some simple indie titles is not a concern. I'm thinking the $1500 model with the ram upgraded to 16GB(it's soldered in) and upgrading the Processor to the I7 would future proof me enough but what are your opinions?

@ShinTaroumusic not sure how hardcore you are about your diet but as a former employee of BK I know they run the veggie patties on the same meat grease soaked conveyer belt as all their meat products. They do taste pretty good though. They are just morning star brand patties.

Veggie dogs are lacking in the mechanically separated chicken, pork, and beef anus.

Thanks Kitsch I did not catch that! If someone in the know wants to hit up whomever operates the DS-10 forum on my behalf and ask them if a donation could be put to good use please do.

It's not a huge deal really, just most people knew me as litebritedeath from 8bc and it's still my main handle for my art, music, and my email. I figured it would be easy for a MOD to do. It's cool if you won't do it though. Maybe when I donate $100 to chipmusic.org it could be done as a return favor for the donation.

Lol it's a play on words. I like how it reads "sexy weekend" at first glance and how it contradicts itself if read right. Straightedge on the weekends. Sadly using it for music brings about to many hardcore straightedge teens that think criminals deserve torture over lab animals. My opinion was neither deserve the torture but don't argue with mobs of straightedge kids from the UK, they are pack animals.

I miss my old handle litebritedeath and would like to use it with this account. If another account is registered under the name it's mine too.
