Wow, more people than I expected.  I'm getting excited!

Damn, chip exodus from Indiana occurred at some point I guess.  Starting to take it as a further sign to head towards the coasts.

New thread for collab here

Based on a discussion here.  Calling all chip musicians from Indiana.  I feel like there's not a ton of us, so I figure anybody interested is pretty much guaranteed a track, if not more than one, haha.  I guess we'll just do a role call here and collect names of those who are interested.  I don't really think a stylistic limitation is called for anything really either, so just whatever it is you normally do.

Deadline is July 15th for submissions.  Send your completed track to either:

Yes. That's it. It'll give me the excuse to create pixel art of Gene Hackman and Dennis Hopper playing Exciting Basket on a famicom together for the cover art. If I know this crowd at all it'll just be a dozen covers of Space Jam, so, no, not like that.

Ha, that'd be awesome.  I'm down for that.

I've always been hesitant to bother posting my shows because I feel like there's not much of a scene around here without having to travel over to Cincinatti or Lexington. Maybe I just haven't found it, haha.

Sort of a Woodstock-y type festival.  Again, I'm the only chip act there and to my
knowledge, one of two electronic acts at all.

I hope posting multiple events on a single thread is okay.  I didn't want to flood the
board with a bunch of them.  I feel like a tool doing self promoting anyway, but I'd be
nice to play for somebody who is actually into what I'm doing even a little bit.

Well, it didn't take long for everyone to collaborate and beat me to any of my own reasons.  hmm  It really feels like the sound of a generation who grew up on those sounds in the games they played.  Being a part of others enjoying/listening to/making this music this way makes me feel more like a part of a culture than ever before really.  Being part of the community is a new thing to me as I've been doing a lot of reading/listening/writing on my own, but I'm pretty excited to get out there (here?) in it.  Everybody seems pretty cool so far though.

The sounds are all awesome.  The gritty sounds of a DMG to the strange bell-like tones of FM, just a great electronic palette.  I am often in awe at the sounds people squeeze out of the platforms I understand and am just bewildered at the ones I don't.  The varying styles is awesome too.  It really feels like an 'anything goes' sort of atmosphere.

Making it is definitely a hugely enjoyable part of it for me (perhaps short of performing it).  The limitations (compared to modern methods) are such a creative boon for me.  My output increased in great quality in this medium and I love even my worst song much more than anything I did with a recent DAW.  It feels like such a relief settling into this method of writing.  I'm pretty much always having fun throughout the whole process.  Finding chip as a musical outlet made music fun for me all over again.

I just got mine today.  I haven't really tried to make it play full songs, but that's not what I wanted it for anyway.  Getting used to playing a keyboard or guitar with only three note polyphony has been fun/challenging/maddening, but it does what I want, and at half the price of a midiNES, I ain't even mad.  I guess some legit documentation might be pretty nice.

Er, unless someone with more seniority or clout around here would prefer it, I think I kinda have to choose Hypno, haha.

Pretty nice.  I dig the melody but was definitely itching for maybe a B section with a more profound variation on it perhaps?  For my taste, I would say a bit less reverb overall, but I wouldn't nix it entirely or anything.  Doing a little bit to jazz up the drums a bit might be beneficial.  Even if it's only a coupla extra hi-hats every four or eight bars or something to keep things rolling.  It kinda "humanizines" things a bit and makes things sound a bit more natural and interesting.  Even something subtle like changing the envelopes on things ever so slightly in alternating sets of measures can create the illusion of greater variation throughout.  Keep cranking 'em out.

Pretty hard stuff.  Got almost semi-industrial vibes in a few parts.  The bandcamp description mentioned guitar and bass, but maybe I missed them somewhere or maybe they're just super fuzzy bitcrushed guitar and bass?  I've blown my excess cash on gear this month :x, but it goes on my "to actually pay for" list.

I'm from southwest Indiana, but I have family in the Champaign area, so I make my way up that way occassionally.  If you guys were getting something together I'd be down to at least attend, haha.
