Topic: [LSDJ] .sav file loading help (1 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
Hello all, this is an LSDJ related question.
I am having trouble loading any of my .sav files on my emulator. I am using Visual Boy Advance 1.7.5 to do so. I am running it on a Macbook Pro Version 10.9.2. First and foremost...
-Yes, my .gb file name is the same exact name as the .sav file I want to load.
-Yes, my .sav file is in the "Battery Saves" Folder
-Yes, I have tried Trash-ing VBA and re-downloading/installing a couple of times now.
-About 98% of the times that I boot up my LSDJ.gb rom of choice, a message pops up in LSDJ that looks like this:
"CARTRIDGE TEST
TESTING SAVE RAM,
PLEASE WAIT.... OK!"
But of course, it doesn't load the save file like it should. None of my processes have changed from when I used to do this before, and the .sav files would load up just fine. Not anymore.
Please let me know if I'm forgetting something. I'll take any help I can get, whether it's getting Visual Boy Advance to work properly, whether you think it's the .sav, the .gb, or the emulator itself that's fucked up. If it is the emulator, which GB emulator for Mac would you recommend I use instead, and what do I need to do to load my .sav files with it?
Thanks again so much for any and all help you can provide.

Re: LSDJ: exporting as MIDI (6 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
The PC version of the VGB emulator (http://fms.komkon.org/VGB/) can "export" sounds to MIDI, but for LSDJ purposes like what you're describing, it might be a little bit crude. What you'll get is a raw dump of notes that are consistent with pitch and duration, but beyond that you're kind of on your own (i.e. there's no overarching tempo specified, I don't believe volume envelope behavior is really captured, pitch bends & vibrato effects are really unpredictable & wonky, etc.).
Bummer! Oh well, I also thought about trying this idea in Deflemask, or Logic Pro with the Magical 8bit Plugin, instead of LSDJ. Do you know if that's possible, to export whole files into .midi with Deflemask? (I know you can in Logic).
Thanks again

Re: LSDJ: exporting as MIDI (6 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
it would be dope if someone (some type of gameboy genius perhaps) wrote a script to convert song files to 4 track midi files for even just note & tempo data
Unfortunately, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I would like to be able to take an entire sav file on my cart and export that as a .midi, but alas.
In any case, herr prof, thank you so much for your help and wisdom, I will keep this in mind for any other future projects. As I stated before, there are some areas of the chipmusic world that I'm still unfamiliar with, so I thank you for shedding some needed insight on this.
Cheers!

Topic: LSDJ: exporting as MIDI (6 replies, posted in Nintendo Handhelds)
Hello all, I am sure this question has been posed trillions of times on this website but I'm still having trouble finding the answer I am looking for. So, my apologies in advance.
Can I export my music from LSDJ on my DMG into a MIDI file? Based on the info I've gathered on my own, could I just use an Arduinoboy to accomplish this? Is there anything else I would need? Could I also export material from 2 synced LSDJ's on DMGs into MIDI?
Again, I apologize if you've seen this same topic a million times on here already, I'm still new to a few things and I want to make sure I'm doing it all correctly, so I don't waste time and money. Thank you so much for your help!!!

As for what chiptunes is, I think Danimal Cannon said it best: It's an instrumentation.
Pretty much this.
Also jmc, "LSDJ backed guitar rock" sounds like good ole' chiprock. So, rock on Diggin' the tunes man.

Re: Do you find it difficult to compose in trackers? (22 replies, posted in General Discussion)
It took me a good deal of time for me to get to the point where I understand trackers, or really just LSDJ. I started writing music with good old staff paper in addition to sitting at a piano and trying different things, being classically trained and all, so I understand trackers being difficult to write in. After a lot of experimentation and trial/error with the program itself, my skills have improved quite a bit. Practice makes perfect, after all

Re: What are you favourite programs for making music? (64 replies, posted in General Discussion)
-LSDJ
-Logic Pro
-Sibelius, for live/classical instruments.
If I ever get around to trying around Deflemask (which won't be too far away in time), then that will be fun
