https://warlord.bandcamp.com/album/pokey-nights

This album contains 11 tracks written with Atari Pokey sound chip (used in 8-bit Atari computers) between 2010-2015, using Raster Music Tracker (RMT). Roughly half of the tracks were written in mono (1 x Pokey) mode, other half utilizes stereo (2 x Pokey) mode. Special thanks to Nutshell for the cover art smile Also available as T-shirt from his RedBubble page. http://www.redbubble.com/people/nutikka … key-nights

lets post also here, in case this is relevant for anybody's interest. Should have probably remixed/remastered the songs now, but too lazy for that ;P So here's some vintage straight-to-face chipstuff:

-------------------------------------------------------

A small album/EP that was released originally in September 2002 and now re-released as a small "celebration" of being exactly 10 years old. It is a collection of 4-channel tracker modules/chiptunes I wrote in the first half of 2002 in .xm format + bonus track that was my first SID tune ever (done with Goat Tracker). I had written a number of chiptunes already starting from circa 1999, but I would say this was among the first more "proper" chiptune releases I ever made.

I'm lazy, so I'll just copy paste what I wrote in the info file that I included to the "disk":

Couple of months ago I was asked to write some around 30-60 second long looping chiptunes for a project. Well, that apparent never went anywhere, but as I had already written some "draft" tunes, I thought I might just as well release them now. Of course as the tracks are meant to be short loops, they are fairly simple, short and not very developed or that much polished. The loop-factor is also what the silly "album" title refers to.  All the tracks were written with Raster Music Tracker, using "stereo mode" (2 x Atari Pokey soundchips). There's 7 different tracks + 1 "bonus" one.

Get it here:

http://armagon.org/mods/warlord/2011/mu … 0Pokey.zip

~ total size of the package is around 11 MB and duration (of the .mp3 versions) around 8 mins. The .zip contains both the .sap files and the .mp3 renders.

FDS: fokeyes! donkey shit!

listened the disk through for the first time. nice loopy tracks. my favourite was probably either "ahsch" or "redflag". I also remember the earlier .midi version of recall

recorded from VICE (sadly). was too lazy to mess up with transferring files/recording from real machine, however all stuff should play on unexpanded VIC-20. in other words the limitations/glitches are those defined by the hardware: 3 square channels + 1 noise.

same goes for compiling the stuff into a form where it would make sense to distribute in executable format. if there's a lot of demand for that, then maybe I'll look into that. But generally this is marginal stuff enough as is, and I believe distributing it in such format would have even lesser audience.

A VIC-20 musicdisk as the topic suggest. 12 pieces in total. something new, something (re)cycled.
