After all the furore over theft of people's rights to music recently I would probably say that taking money for your remix is wrong if you don't have permission.

I'm pretty sure I followed a YouTube video to get mine done. It was a pain but it worked. I think the little CD that came with my cart had a link to the video/site/whatever, actually. I'm not home right now so I can't check, sorry!

Nice on, Nick. Thanks for sorting this out. Now everyone give generously!

People's lack of respect for intellectual property ruins the fun of making music.

Same goes for movies and games.

Just an observation, but if you've already gone to the trouble of paying for all of that yourself you'll get a lot more money back doing it all yourself than letting the label take a huge chunk for doing nothing other than "putting it out".

If you're adamant you want to do it through a label for whatever possible reason (under potentially false pretenses of exposure or promotion) then considering they'll have next to nothing to lose from gaining the rights to your music, make sure they push it flopping hard!!

We already got a label interested on it, one of my best friends indeed, who also released our first 6". The thing is, if we get another guy to release it, they can put focus (and money) on other stuff and bands (for example, paying for our new videoclip), so we all win.

I agree with you all on the "just release it yourself" and we plan on keep doing it for smaller stuff ( cassetes and the such )

aaanyways I made a private bandcamp pre-mix thingie. If someone got egr and matt kitsch's emails it would be appreciated, also. Actually, any scene email who releases vinyl is appreciated

Fair enough. Sorry, didn't mean to sound quite as condescending as I did, having read it back. Glad you're at least physically releasing stuff. I'll download MP3s if it's stuff I like and there really is no other option but even if it costs me 2, 3, 4 times as much, I'll always take a physical copy given the choice. Looking forward to it!

It's not even a cosy 10 minutes, yet!

Would LOVE to go. Wrong town, unfortunately. Would love to be part of a chipfest in London too (either watching or participating) at some point in future but if I ever come up to scouse land I'll definitely be sure to make the dates coincide!

The Steam controller and their support for Linux is what makes this tick. It's an embedded Linux box running Canonical's ARM Ubuntu variant with a fancy wireless controller. And that's not a bad thing. I think it's awesome, it means PC gaming on Linux machines is going to get pushed forward a long way as developers are forced to become comfortable with developing for Linux.

i think this will bring linux even more into the spotlight which is a grreat thing for development.. i wont have to dual boot just because i want to run a couple programs that wont run in linux (and yes i know i can emulate but AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT lolz).. im psyched plus ive been waiting for a steam box to come out i kinda said it would happen years ago and it makes me super happy..

Once they've made a cheap chinese knock-off, obvz?

Actually, a further thought, if Amazon have sold a bucketload of this without the copyright owners permission then they can't very well keep their share of the fee... Perhaps everyone's owed something by Amazon, too!

Just going back a few pages, while Amazon will be able to take stuff down due to copyright infringement, it will almost certainly take a court case to determine just how much each person has lost in terms of earnings and for them to get it back. I don't think Amazon will be able to re-direct revenue to affected parties and given how publishing etc works it's not really worth their time to worry about it beyond taking the content down.

However, I fully support all affected artists in seizing back their property and if I was in any kind of position to help I'd certainly do so, though I've only studied contracts, publishing and copyright issues, I have no legal clout, I'm afraid. But court costs will be paid by the guilty party and I doubt anyone will have too much trouble convincing a copyright lawyer they have a case as long as you can prove your track was out before this joker's so take this guy to the cleaners, I say. Slip a few "damages to reputation" claims in there, too, for good measure!

If anyone's in the Musicians Union in the UK I'm pretty sure you get free legal advice/backup included in your membership. I'm told the US MU is even better so take a look at that, too. Good luck to everyone in ensuring justice is done!

Laohu - you sound a LOT like Ben Folds! Great cover, too!

Looks like someone just started a databending manual!! smile

Mine isn't entirely chiptune (it's got vocals) so either you're fine or I've wasted quite a bit of time!

office work and laundry could be some kind of art for the people if people voluntarily did them for their own sakes... who does? in fact they are more often signs of oppression than liberation

Good point well made, though does that mean the rule is "if you do it to get paid it can't be art"? Not really sure which side I'm on now, it leads into that "video games as art" argument a bit, doesn't it?!

If people don't come to databending for "sporty-art" then that's fine, I suppose I've just always naturally aspired to do something well in every aspect of my life rather than just do something, even if I fail spectacularly at it as I am at the moment!
