Heya. Hopefully this isnt a crappy way of posting my music, but I'm far from actually putting an album together. So I decided Id just post the ones I've made into one thread. I'll just comment when I update, rather than making a new thread (until I actually have an album together.)

So, to start us off, here's two songs:

SPACEDERP
Click here for the SoundCloud playlist
Click here for the Youtube playlist (Bonus Visuals!)

01 - Spring Chip
Listen on SoundCloud
Watch on Youtube
This was my first song on my gameboy, Sequenced with FL Studio, mGB. Each instrument was then recorded separately for mixing.

02 - Mirage Process
Listen on SoundCloud
Watch on Youtube
Switched over to Ableton Live and am loving it. First song in the software.

MORE COMING!

Thanks for taking a listen. When I get enough for an album, I'll put it up on bandcamp for pay what you want.

UPDATED: Added youtube links because I made a pixel art video to go with them.

Maybe the issue is in the TeensyBoy code?

...

void sendByteToGameboy(byte send_byte)
{
  delayMicroseconds(100); // NIB :
----snipped-------

That was exactly it! Thanks so much for the pointer. I had a go and changed the value a ton until I arrived at 500, which seems to be a sweet spot. I did a little test song in FL Studio, and I didnt drop a single note using all 4 channels! Thanks!

My test song: https://soundcloud.com/wacomalt/another … tune-thing

I tried everything from 50 to 1000 and 500 definitely seemed to be the best. No lag or choked input, no missing notes. Very happy now smile

I found that a value around 300 alleviates a great deal of the missing notes. but a value even as high as 1000 doesn't solve all of them 100%.

I set mine to "delayMicroseconds(1000)" anyways, since it doesn't seem to increase latency, so why not tongue

I'll try tweaking it on my end. I finally got my environment set up to be able to adjust it tongue if I find a delay value that works well I'll let you guys know. Thanks so much for all the pointers, and I hope you can get the few small issues worked out.  I'm not so much worried about being able to use the max patch. More just fixing the few things in mGB mode that cause missed notes. That'd probably require a lot less tweaking than getting that max patch working for the same end goal.

Ok, I'll learn how to modify the code on my teensy. Do you think something like 200 would be good enough?

Boo.

Agreed.

So what are my options?  Editing the code that's running on the teensy? I was messing around with Max a ton last night, I couldnt get anything like what their patch did.  I'm about ready to just give up on Teensy based adapters, cut my losses, build an arduinoboy, and buy a midi interface.

I see it in the list, but it doesn't actually connect or send/receive.

T_T So.. I should have built an arduinoboy as anything based on teensy in incapable of not skipping notes?

EDIT: Ok I think what that means is that I can edit that code and upload the new sketch to my USBBoy?  Now I need to learn how to do that...

Hey, I ordered one of your USB Boys, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it working with Max and the ArduinoBoy patch it came with. I need to fix these dropped notes issues.  Any ideas?

The editor lets you tweak that value directly without having to compile code.

I cannot get the editor (I assume you mean the Max patch?) to recognise my teensy USBBoy. How do I get it working?

The E sign is not even from the gameboy era as far I can tell.

Yeah, ESRB wasn't established till like '93/'94 but they were still making gameboy games after that so I'm sure some of them did have it.
I think the graphic might look better without the ESRB rating but it's a nice touch.

Hey WACOM, once you get a quote I would love to know the kind of numbers you are looking at, and the min print run that company expects.

I'm still waiting on the newer quote (looks like the first one they mistakenly quoted for a vinyl sticker O_o ) So I'll let you know. It looks like most places require at least 50 at a time. The Quote for the vinyl full color stickers (with the silver) was $226 for 50 of them, including shipping. Which isnt bad at $5 a sticker, but I'm not going to pay that much for a sheet of colored sticky paper tongue

That said that quote is bogus because of the vinyl. So I'll give you real numbers once I get the update. It may actually be within my range once they get rid of the vinyl.

UPDATE:  OP has been updated with the finished graphics for you all to enjoy smile

It looks like a select few games did have it. The USA Link's Awakening DX had it. Here's a crappy image of it: http://gamesdbase.com/Media/SYSTEM/Nint … ntendo.jpg

Though you guys are right. if it were Sweden it wouldn't have that logo.  Drat, because it took me forever to find that old style of their ratings logo. I had to scan one of my old N64 carts that had the same version on it.  (I'm dedicated XD)

Also I have some likely bad news. The Quote came back from the printing place, and while they can do it, it will cost a LOT for the minimum number. While I could still sell them for cheap, the upfront cost due to the minimum order means I'd probably never sell enough to make my money back. Not to mention It's not cleared with Johan yet.

I'll be uploading my PSD files today should anyone want to use them. I also have a vector version of the "Nintendo GAME BOY TM" screenprint from the front of the DMG case, because when I get my case painted I want to keep that. (A, B, START, and SELECT will come later, anyone know what Fonts those are?)

Anywho look for the PSD in the OP later today, hopefully you guys can get some printed for yourselves. I'll leave the E rating logo in there, you can turn it off if you want.   BTW I switched it back to DMG-LSDJ-USA since this would be the NTSC USA version of the cartridge, though still "MADE IN SWEDEN" I think that seems most correct (At least for me, being in USA) Of course it's editable so feel free to tweak it to your heart's content!   smile

I'm still gonna get some printed, for myself, without the silver. Likely from StickerMule or PSPrints. I'll post pics when I get it in.

EDIT: Replaced crappy picture with better picture.

Alas, I was afraid these would be the answers. I just spent a fair deal of money on this DMG, sad to hear it'll need to be dumped if I want to use it for live play. But I suppose I should have read up a bit more.  As far as other models of gameboys go, which would be recommended? I quite liked the Advance SP, thanks to the backlight and portability. Does it need a prosound mod, or is it good out of the box? Also since the USBBoy has a DMG style Link port, and the GBA would of course have GBA style, will I need to find an adapter? Not sure which Id need.

Mess with the  max editor and the delay settings, or try a color or gameboy advance.

Max editor? and delay settings? Where cna these be found in FL Studio or Renoise?

Hi all. I just got my USBBoy in the mail from Thursday Cusoms, the thing is awesome big_smile

So I loaded my DerpCart with mGB and started to get to work.

I have tried it out with both FL Studio and Renoise, and both seem to have the issue of missing notes randomly. Sometimes it happens when I'm sending a lot of midi signals, other times it just happens when I'm playing a very slow thing. This happens live, or sequenced from either program.

Where does the fault lie here? Is there a solution?

As awesome as USBBoy is, I'm beginning to think the problem lies with it, though I hope not since it was fairly expensive.  The only other thing I could think is that maybe it's inherent to the gameboy itself, but yet LSDJ never seems to miss a note so I doubt that.

Would overclocking the thing help? Or maybe the USBBoy just isnt up to the task? If so what is a better approach for live or PC controlled Midi synth? Is ArduinoBoy a better option, or Nanoloop USB?  Does Nanoloop USB work with a Derpcart for Midi input?

I also have another question that I'm betting the answer to is no... but I don't want to start another thread for it wink
Is there any Mod out there that allows you to branch off each of the 4 channels from the GB board before they get mixed to stereo?  Like a 4 channel unmixed output bridge? (Prosound Xtreme 4 it should be called tongue... if it were to ever exist)

make sure to run this all by Johan!  i know the logo itself is trademark, and he might have an opinion about his name appearing on the sticker as well (or the TM being removed in particular)

(maybe you've done this and i just missed it, it'd be a good idea though considering you're wanting to sell them, which he's previously put limits on people accruing profit from if its via the logo)

not trying to be a bummer.  prudence pays off

Right, you are absolutely correct. Is he a member on these forums? I'm still new to this community smile

I definitely don't want to sell these without his blessing!

Will you be selling those labels when printed?  Because I will need 6.  And if you get them with different color schemes that would be even better!

Differing color schemes will probably not be possible on my budget. Each style has to come in a run of 50+ so for now, unless there winds up being a huge demand, I can only do the original design pictured there.

But yes, I will be selling them provided I manage to get them produced.
