Today I released a short album of simple melancholy chiptune songs made with LSDJ and a sampler.  You can hear it here:

So I just discovered the wonderful Axoloti the other day and I was curious if anyone here was using it to create any chiptune style synths?

Pictured above is the Axocontrol,  and the Axoloti Core.

The Axoloti Core board is sort of like an Arduino,  but for creating synthesizers. You use the Axoloti Patcher software to create your patch in a virtual modular synth type environment,  then upload it to the board.  You can then disconnect the board from your computer and it will run your patch.  You can add knobs,  sliders,  buttons,  switches,  sensors,  leds,  joysticks,  etc. DIY style to create your own hardware to control it.  I bought a kit to build the Axocontrol unit to control it (shown above)  but you could also use Midi too.

I just thought it was pretty cool and I know some people in this crowd are into this sort of thing so I thought I'd share.

(Not sure if this topic belongs under hardware or software because it's a combination of both.)

I used to stalk www.shopgoodwill.com,  which is an auction site..... you can find some good deals once in a while,  but you always run the risk of getting a dud because a lot of the time they don't test them properly.... Game Boys are easy to fix though smile

I might suggest contacting the people at MELT (Milwaukee),  they put on a lot of interesting electronic shows in Milwaukee,  though I don't know anyone personally...

It would be nice to be able to use more than 1 fx on each note....

Nice work,  4mat!  Your drum machine looks promising,  too!

So,  I've had my PocketC.H.I.P  for a few days now and I am loving Pico-8!  The ability to edit the sprites,  sounds,  sfx,  music,  and code in the games is a lot of fun.

What makes Pico-8 especially cool to me is the wide variety of the different "cartridges" (programs/games) available for it (all created by it's community).  There are,  of course,  games of all sorts available,  but there are also cartridges that are just glitch art,  experimental sounds,  or just a chiptune song or two.   Some of the games are very experimental,  as well... today I found a game where you are a skydiving cow slam dunking basketballs big_smile

I have always wanted to create my own videogame(s),  but I honestly never thought I would ever be able to... Pico-8 changes that.  There is an ongoing fanzine that is really well done,  which contains nice tutorials on how to make games using Pico-8.  The zines are available as PDF's for "name your price",  and/or you can get physical copies for about £6 each.  I got both.

Edit: So,  it's not a cow,  but rather a donkey!  (You can always use the sprite editor to make it whatever you want though!)

"Dunkey 2 microgame"  big_smile

I found this to be a good read while I wait for my PocketC.H.I.P to arrive from Hong Kong!  It's like a PocketC.H.I.P user guide,  lots of good info here:

Also,  there may or may not be a Virtual Boy emulator available for PocketC.H.I.P.!!!  ...designed to be used with the "pockulus C.H.I.P." eyepiece that you can 3d print.  Homebrew games,  too!  I'm unclear on if they are still working on all this or not,  but if you are interested you can find some more info here:

I'm just speculating here,  but I'm thinking at the last minute they decided to preinstall more fun stuff to make it more marketable and usable straight out of the box,  but idk

In this video,  Dave is asked what is preinstalled on PocketC.H.I.P. to make it fun "right out of he box" and he says Sunvox...  Check it out:

(Skip to about 3.23 to hear about sunvox being installed...)

I didn't realize it before,  but apparently PocketC.H.I.P. also comes with Sunvox preinstalled!

Excited to be getting my Arduboy from Kickstarter any day now...

Searching on youtube yesterday I found this cool video of a small synth/noise program somebody made for it,  enjoy!

So,  I'm really stoked for PocketC.H.I.P.,  especially after today's update announcing that it comes installed with something called Pico-8...

PocketC.H.I.P. is C.H.I.P.,  the "$9 computer",  with a built in touch screen,  keyboard,  etc.  that debuted on Kickstarter awhile back and is now expected to ship out this month.

Apparently,  Pico-8,  is a community based, 8 bit gaming platform where you can edit the games/music as you'd like(?)  Sounds awesome,  but I just heard of it today so I know very little about it...

I was looking at the PocketC.H.I.P. website today and they show a picture of a Pico-8 music tracker!  I was wondering if anyone here knew which tracker it was and/or had any experience with it???  It's under "Music" at the following link:

Cool Chipzel song used in the video,  too!
