I'd say it's somewhat of a risky venture,  at least if you want fast results...

Like you said,  quality is going to make a big difference... Make something cool and somebody will buy it...eventually.  If it's super awesome,  someone might scoop it up right away...  maybe.   Heck, you might make something super awesome and no one will buy it... You never know.

Keep in mind though,  I'm only speaking from experience selling modded DMG's  (non-painted) on eBay,  so I don't know what Etsy is like,  it may be different/better.

I don't want to dissuade you because I think it is a cool idea!  I just don't know if it's guaranteed quick cash... But I say go for it!  Perhaps you can get some junk Gameboys for cheap and just use the cases.  Then you could sell hand drawn cases,  just an idea.  PM me and I'll let you know a good place to score DMG's.

I've always wanted to try drawing on a Gameboy before... Going to have to try that with some Sharpies!

Also,  check out this rad Gameboy by KOOL SKULL !  Pretty amazing.

Haha,  wow!

Almost reminds me of the Mother 1 soundtrack in some way.

I had never heard of Mother before,  so I looked it up,  and I'm really digging it!   Even though it's way better than my work,  I can still see some similarities between the two.  Thanks,  man.

Thanks guys,  I used a Tascam MF P-01 which is like the cheapest,  most basic 4 track cassette recorder you can get.

Today I released my first chiptune ep.

You can check it out here:

https://deerbite.bandcamp.com/

It is very lofi,  sort of noisy chiptune.  Simplistic,  with slower tempos and some experimental noise thrown in here and there.

It's not the most impressive or skillful chiptune you will hear,  but I would love to hear what you guys think!  Some CC would be great as this is my first release and I am planning on more.  I know I made mistakes,  some are just more obvious than others,  I'm learning a lot!

PS - There are cassette tapes available from the bandcamp site!

I think they sound totally decent!  I especially like the spacey,  mellow,  chillwave feel of the 2nd song,  Chipbitz.  Not sure what advice I can offer,  though.

Bump,  all prices lowered!  Free shipping on everything!

Do they sell Sid Wizard cartridges anywhere?

Yeah,  i was wondering what those black sticker like things were on the other side...never seen that before...

8 trimpots,  I'm guessing?  I will probably use a breakout box anyways...

Yes,  I believe I've used that circuit before!   I got it from Forrest Mims toy organ schematic.  I even made a "polyphonic" version by doubling the circuit,  but It was only arbitrary notes like you said....(also had photoresistors controlling pitch for fun)

I'm liking this idea!

Now i just need to figure out which resistors to use to generate the chromatic scale,  I'm guessing I'd need some trimpots,  too.  I will Google this, I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

No resistors

Thanks guys,  not sure what I want to make,  so I like hearing the ideas!  The 555 keyboard idea sounds cool!

I'm going to have to learn more about that chip (4066) and see what it can do...

But I like more the idea of using the controller as 8 N/O buttons,  then I could turn on and off different oscillators on a 40106 or something like that.  So I would totally desolder the 4021,  remove it completely and cut off the 2 resistors?

After checking my controller,  it does not have any resistors on it,  like the one in the picture does...
