I doubt I'm the first person here to see this, but I can't find any information about it anywhere.

Link to AliExpress page.

It's looks like another GBA hardware clone, but cheaper than any other at $30 shipped. Unlike the other clones, this seems to have the typical Chinese "99999 games" in place of any built in emulators. It also doesn't seem to have a microSD slot or cartridge. Reviews say that it does in fact run GBA games (with slowdowns/lag). Not sure about GBC/DMG games, but it's pretty unlikely.

In the pictures, the shell is subtly different from both the official SP and the K1. Other AliExpress listings have it in a variety of colors.

If anybody has one, gets one, or already knows more about these, please give us all the nitty gritty details. big_smile

Thank you very much Mrwimmer. I used your advice and just bought a DMG with a rev. 8 CPU.

I'm looking to buy a DMG, but after reading about issues with with LSDJ and it's compatibility with certain CPU revisions I'm pretty worried. Disassembling the DMG to look at chip markings before I buy it is troublesome at best, and the community doesn't seem to have enough info to interpret serial numbers. However, I do have a flash cart, and actually testing the sound channels seems like the easiest and most accurate way to determine if I've got a good CPU.

My question is: What EXACTLY should I do in LSDJ to make sure every function of every channel will work properly? Even better, is there a custom rom designed to help test this?

So, the integrated TeensyBoy is already planned, and if there's enough spare IO I don't see why DIN MIDI couldn't be done (I think it would only require 2 pins). Also, people will inevitably still want a Link Port for syncing with an unmodded gameboy or using a PS/2 adapter for keyboards.

That's 3 connectors (4 if you seperate the MIDI into 2 seperate connectors), and there's only room for 1 in an unmodified DMG shell.

IMO you should just leave unpopulated headers for people to add their own connectors, but that's just me. There's probably a better way.

I have an idea for a very specific project that would involve a custom GBC screen cover. Since I'm not a fan of painting on the outside of the screen, I'd have to use a clear screen cover and put something underneath it. Unsurprisingly, there are no clear GBC screen covers (that I can find). I'm assuming I'll have to cut one out myself, which seems easy enough using the old one as a template and doing some careful x-acto knife work. This leads to my main question.

Where would I find hard clear plastic of the right thickness for a screen cover? I'm not going to order some custom stock from halfway across the world for an exact match, so readily available substitutes would be good.

This thread might have a couple of solutions for you.

Allow me to ask the most obvious question here: What about CPUs? The idea of new boards seems a little bit less exciting if you have to scavenge CPUs from old boards. Has anybody discussed reverse engineering the DMG CPU? The Chinese clones and K1 did it, both with more complex chips. It can't possibly be that impossible.

Also, the next biggest question: If you're going balls-to-the-wall to create the ultimate DMG board, what about an internal flash cart akin to that of the K1? Possibly accessible via the teensy's USB?

If you're still sold on the idea of having a nice white LCD in a DMG, several people have successfully transplanted pocket LCDs onto a DMG board. It's fairly difficult and involves individually soldering a lot of small pitch wires though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I misread the original post. I thought you were modding a DMG. Disregard that.

I don't know about pocket, but it looks like kitsch is working on a new replacement LCD for DMG. Last update on them seems to be here. He frequents these forums, so he might provide more info.

I'm sorry if this is a noob question, but did those buttons come from kitsch-bent? I can't seem to find neon-green in silicone. Are they just sold out?
