I recently came upon the world of chip tuning, and would love to actually become a part and make my own music and whatnot.

Any suggestions, tips, recommendations, advice, for absolute noobs on the subject?

It would depend which kind of aesthetic you would like to go for. There are bunch of different approaches. Is there a particular chip or old school computer or console you like the sound of?

I mean for example if you like the sound of the NES I would direct you towards Famitracker or Neil Baldwins tracker and tell you to listen to Tim Follin and Chibitech.

If you were more of an Atari ST fan I might show you Maxymizer and Stu.

It a bit of a broad question, could you narrow it down a shade?

Hi there sharkattack! big_smile

Chip tuning basics wink

What things do you think sound the best (click their name if you don't know what they sound like)? Is it...

There's loads more consoles and fun stuff but I'm ill and I can't be bothered, so that's a pretty random selection, but it should be enough to get started. If you just stick around a bit, read forums, use google, etc, you'll find the other stuff that interests you by yourself, I'm sure. smile

Hope I was a bit useful. smile

I'd have a ferrari as an aspirational machine to chip tune but if you are starting you might want to try a VW Jetta or something like that

Thanks for making this thread, sharkattack.  I rely on more of the slow-seek method, just Googling with my hopes high.

Outside of the actual music production methods, since they have already been covered thoroughly...
Try to stay clear of the whole "pokemon music image" or anything like that, spend a good deal of time researching the so called "chiptune scene" before you release any albums or what not, take your music seriously. Trust me, I regret making pokemon music.

No no no, everyone has it all wrong. You need ms-dos and a sound blaster 16 card. The end. Get those items and call me in the morning, you'll thank me later !

I'm down with it!
If you write songs inspired by pokemon, they will most likely still be better than most of the shit out there... MYRIGHT?
