The Class Chiptune

(It's like a Mario / N64 Sound)

I got a few requests asking how to get that classic N64-ish sound so I decided to make a video on it. This patch is great for adding fills into your songs as shown by Madeon in many of his hits. Deadmau5 also used this chip tune sound in his track, "Meowtingtons Hax More". I personally love this sound, though I have not yet been able to use it in my tracks... (I'm sure I will when I need to fill in my high frequencies with something).

I was never a fan of the Nintendo 64s sound, but I think this is interesting because the N64 doesn't have average chiptune sounds. (NES, GB, etc.)

Seriously, I don't get these tutorials. Square waves, lower the bit depth and TA-DAH! you got yourself some fakebit. End. Of. Story.

...... the N64 basically used general midi and or samples if i recall... It didn't even have a devoted soundchip that synthesized sounds or playback.... the CPU did it.

What he did in this video is replicate synthesis techniques for 8bit machines like the NES and GB.

every n64 has a reverb chip in it, ofc

n64 was all CPU like the GBA, though I can't remember having to battle the game coder for more channels/reverb like we did on the latter.

Just did a bit of research lookin for legend of zelda soundfonts, and yes.
This article provides more information:

it's all cpu and soundfonts yo.

Also: just gonna share my findings of N64 soundfonts here (there are various vsts out there that allow you to open .sf2 files, do a google search):

I'm debating writing a small little diy guide on cmo about using soundfonts. Not sure if this has been done before or if there is any interest... but yeah, should i? (I'm not the expert, by far, but idk)
