WOW MAN!

Was listening to his "Talking Book" album earlier for the first time in ages and I'd forgotten how utterly awesome the bass sound is on the track "Maybe Your Baby"

Anyone got insight into how he got that sound? I'm talking about the analogue-ish synth-sounding bass part not the clav running through a wah-wah pedal.

Ah, I wonder if it's because it's a pretty high quality VBR MP3?

Maybe it's too much awesomeness to browsers to handle.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess at talkbox? Stevie was a biiiiig talkbox user. in the late 60s to earlymid 70's. He went kind of, Little Stevie wonder, BADASS STEVIE WONDER, Ballad stevie wonder.

Seriously is there ANYTHING cooler than this video?

Sick video, lazerbeat!  I don't think it was the talkbox on "Maybe Your Baby" though.

Could well be right. The Wikipage lists a moog and and arp but isn't specific about which models.

Sounds like a bass guitar going an envelope follower controlling a band pass filter (or a big peak low pass filter), but I'm not sure. It could very well be both a bass guitar and a moog, looking at the personnel list Lazerbeat posted.

I did some more digging this morning.  I think I guessed correctly yesterday:

Stevie was also big into layering tracks so linde's idea of bass guitar and moog together seems likely.
