I finally started building my SammichSID.  Took 4 days with just a couple of hours each day.

Timelapse video of the build here :
SammichSID Video

And 6 minutes of self indulgent techno here :
SammichSID Demo - Live Mix

This is a pretty easy build, if you're half decent with a soldering iron it's worth a go!  The end result is a tidy, phat little synth powered by two SID chips.  It's got me itching to build something else now!  The MB808 is tempting, but I much prefer the 909 sound....I wonder if anyone will ever to a 909 kit?  cool

Nice. smile
I look forward to getting a couple. i'm on a list for May. woot!

is the MG-808 even available? the 909 was a sample based drum machine.. why bother making one? just use samples of it. wink
i used to own a 909.. i'd take an 808 any day of the week.

They're awesome!  Any customisations planned?

Not as a kit, but I think they are out there
EDIT: http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_808.html  cool

Yeah that's what I thought...but still....I'd love one.

808 is nice.  Better when coupled with a 909 a-la Rebirth cool

Whoa, just spotted this from

Two batches of kits have been made and sold. A third batch is in the works. See the forum for more details.

The parts list has been updated. You can create your own Mouser login and upload the list.
Doug is working on several case options. The first run is going to be the front and back panels with a wooden case. After that batch is complete, we'll be working on the 909 voice expansion and the mixer/effects add-on panels.

OMG, OMG, OMG....

EDIT : On futher reading, seems the boat has sailed.  Goddamn.

regarding the midi808.. i dont think that site has been updated in 2 years.

you can clone an 808 quite easily (i'm working on designing pcb's actually). but the sequencer is where the gold is.
And a midibox seq would be what you want to make.

but if you're using a midi sequencer of your own. all you really need to do is build up the voice pcb's and trigger them via a midi=>trigger converter.

As for my plans of a sammichSID. no major changes. i just want to build 2 of them to control via the pig and or renoise.

the 909 really was a PCM based drum machine. they just used external circuitry to control things like tone, and decay.

So reality is.. any samples taken from a 909 are pretty much as good as a 909 pending how well they were recorded.
the only fun of having a real 909 is the sweet computer style buttons and the sequencer. :-D I miss mine. fun for live jamming

Well, 4 of the sounds are samples. I dunno if that is really enough to qualify it as PCM based (who uses the crash cymbal anyway? tongue).

oh crap, you're right! I stand corrected.
i forgot about that. looking at the service manual it looks pretty straight forward though..
Now i gotta add that to my drum cloning pile. thanks a lot ant1 tongue haha

Dude. that crash is amazing! lol. Gabber wouldn't be Gabber w/o that crash. hahaha

I just coloured in mine with a crayon so it filled the gaps.

But that green monster of yours looks amazing.
