These two MIDI powered devices look pretty interesting.  The first one had some nice chip sounding sounds, the second is a drum synth.

Both are $34 each.  Not a bad bit of kit for the price.

yea I have a notion to stick both in a vhs case with a little passive mixer and piggy gp2x to make an ultraportable stockwave rig.

haha yeah, was thinking about the same thing, just a different enclosure
edit: don't forget though, the piggy->midi boxes probably don't have midi power pins connected, so you'll probably have to run it through a powered thru first (more for anyone else reading this than herr, as he probably already knows this)

firestarter circuit has +5v on pin 4 as per midi spec... however IIRC certain versions of the gp2x only supply 3.3v but I may be wrong.
