Has this been done before or is it possible?
I'm assuming a white backlight would best because it wouldn't stuff up the colors.
It is indeed possible, I just can't seem to find a picture at the moment, sorry!
GBCs I think need to be frontlit. Something about the way the colour lcd works.
You'd want something like this

vices/fkl2
Apparently it can also be done with a frontlight salvaged from an SP.
Edit: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=916 This thread on Modretro explains the process.

Looks like you need to put some insulation tape on the inside of the case or something.
I kinda like the light coming through the case!

I do too, I also trimmed away the plastic under the COLOR logo, so light would shine through that too.
I'll be doing a few of these for my new live rig i think... same w/ gameboy pockets...
Can't wait to start.
If i remember correctly it can be done w/ DS front lite kits too..

What DS is front it? unless the very first one was (cause I never had one) then I dont think any of them are. Hope this dont mean your not sending me those SPs now..lol
I was disassembling a gameboy color, and I ended up actually breaking a tiny little piece of the glass on the screen and the screen stopped working altogether, the glass on those things is real thin and fragile.
also in the tutorial it says use AGS-100, not 101, anyone know what the difference is?
AGS-001 is the original front lit GBASP from 2003
AGS-101 is the bright ass Backlit GBASP from 2005
got to do this when i'll find a broken (or cheap) SP.
