Kaoss pad. I like its vocalized effects. Although its not really a "pedal" It still can pitch shift it etc.

Also not a pedal, but harmonica mics overdrive really easy, which can sound pretty dirty. Or you could make a mic out of an old phone speaker.

live distortion on vocals is a no no, use a cheap megaphone.

My kp3 has been used mostly for vocals and I am not disappoint with it.

it doesn't sound nearly as good as you think it will, and it's FEEDBACK CENTRAL.

Most 'distortion' pedals are made for guitars and the like, which are much less sensitive than a microphone. All that gain will be a nightmare. Also, the distortion would most certainly cut out any lows from your vocals, since their beuilt with guitar range in mind.

I've also been wondering how to get some decent sounding crunchy vocals. Running them through my distortion pedal sounds like absolute ass.

I think a distortion pedal was what Old Grey Wolf was using on his vocals when he performed at blip australia. IMO it kind of ruined the performance.

Shitbird's the man to talk to on this matter.

I've experimented with running vox through my Cube Street set to kill. It works, but like you said Dan, feedback all over the place.

And if you have the money, this little guy right here is the best solution:

I used a noise gate when I had a distortion pedal to my mic.

You could also try a low pass filter to cut those oscillating high frequencies.
