I buy most, if not all, of my parts from Mouser.  The current ArduinoBoy uses Mouser part number 512-6N138: Fairchild Logic Output Optocouplers' 6N138 optoisolator.

this one?

Yep, that's the one, but practically anything that comes in an 8 pin DIP (dual inline pin) package with "6N138" stamped on it will work.

let's say i bought the following -

http://www.moderndevice.com/products/rbbb-kit or http://www.moderndevice.com/products/bb … le-package
http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/catalog … cts_id=492

would this be a short cut to building your own arduinoboy? like, if i got these two things, would that cut down on the amount of work and extra components? would it just be as easy as connecting these two things and then loading the appropriate programming on to it?

i know nothing about the arduino world and i want an arduinoboy ASAP. i'd buy one of yours right now if i could, but i'm really interested in making my own.

Well, here's the problem: the BBB and the RBBB are designed specifically for use in solderless breadboards.  They do not have the Arduino shield pin arrangement, so they cannot be plugged into the MIDI shield you have there.  Also, the shield uses a few of the pins the ArduinoBoy app needs to run.  According to the schematic, those two potentiometers are connected to A0 and A1, which need to be connected to the link cable instead.  Your best bet would be to buy a standard Arduino like this one, a prototype shield, and the rest of the parts piece-wise (6 LEDs, a button, 7 2kΩ resistors, the optoisolator, the diode, 2 220Ω resistors, a 270Ω resistor, the sockets, and some wire to connect it all together).

Shoot me an email if you have any other questions.

Due to cash flow problems, 4 ArduinoBoys are ready for purchase immediately.  Prices have been adjusted for PayPal fees.  First come, first serve.  More will be available shortly.

i cant tell you how excited i am for this.

i don't know a ton about arduinoboys so bear with me...

are there two gameboy link cables coming out of that thing because you can use one arduinoboy to control TWO gameboys?

just wanted to say, mine was shipped super quick. it arrived in perfect condition, and it works perfectly. thanks scienceguy8!

i just have a quick question. can you explain how the midi thru stuff works? essentially what i'd like to do is this, plug the midi from my computer into the midi in of the arduinoboy (which sends midi to the gameboy, obv.) but then plug my midi nes in to the midi out of the arduinoboy. is this possible?

I totally want a new one because the one I got has this sort of hiss (which I actually like but I also want a clean one) and I thought I heard scienceguy say he got rid of the hiss.

It would probably be better to ask Trash80 that question since his designs and software are what these arduinoboy's are based off of.
