Easily, this song from "Total Recall" for NES. I can't even think of adjectives that properly describe this song at ALL, let alone make it appropriate for a cerebral thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a spy from the future who visits a dark and gloomy Mars and uses innocent, disposable businessmen as human shields throughout.

To be fair though, the way the gun moves with the menu selection is kind of neat.

The generative music for LSD on the PS1 probably should be in this thread

You know, video games are the PERFECT format for generative music, but to my knowledge, its widely an unexplored area...

I totally had to mute this when playing through that area...otherwise I became filled with a sort of overwhelming sense of dread...I think this song is just freakily powerful and erie...

This sounds like a cheap ska song! That beat...either that or its time for some slavic Kozachok kicking!!

Interesting that you hear that as a trainwreck. It's actually one of my favorite NES songs, and I think it's incredibly impressive. To fit in with the theme of this thread, it's certainly bafflingly inappropriate for a video game.. When would a cross-fade that couldn't really be synched up with anything be appropriate as level background music? But as a song and a showcase of the console's sound chip, I think it's friggin' amazing.

That is a valid point...I supposed it couldn't really be synched up...to me there's a few painful seconds in there as it transfers over...but yeah, its definitely an impressive use of the limited chip...

I also remember getting it into my 10-year old head that I was gonna WIN that Treasure Master competition....I gave up after about 2 days of that game...
