I thought THX 1138 was kinda aloof and inaccessible. While I enjoy it very much, it seems more of a film for the Sci-Fi elite, and not the average dork.

I always wanted to watch this one, but never did. All Fallout's fault.

Also, 12 Monkeys can be considered post-apocalyptic? I know he "comes" from the future and etc, but I dunno.

The first Mad Max is just awesome. I once did a song about the Interceptors.

Isn't Escape From New York that? Well, I then say I love Escape from NY.

And I totally need to watch Brazil, asap

12 Monkeys.

Does Brazil really count? It's dystopian for sure, but there is no indication of any apocalyptic event preceding the events of the movie. It's one of the best movies any way you have it, though.

Well, he comes from a future where most of mankind have been wiped out by a deadly biological weapon, and a lot of the movie deals with the nature of that future, so I'd say it counts.

Planet Zaxxon

Tank Girl
Judge Dredd
Heavy Metal
Demolition Man (?) not sure if this one qualifies as post apocalyptic, but we all know about the massive earthquake of 2010 that destroyed most of Los Angeles causing it to merge with San Diego.

tank girl
logans run
judge dredd
mad max

there are lots of much nicer novels and comic books though

i hope you have played the old fallout games smile

Seconded on all counts, especially City of Lost Children, and I'll add Waterworld to the cheesy ones.
If you want really trashy, The Omega Man or Six String Samurai.

Oh yeah, Escape from New York.

Postman, but only if you're stoned.

A boy and his dog is wacky, but fun.

Children of Men was a bit meh. Good camera though.

28 Days Later if you don't mind zombies.28 Weeks was bad, I thought.

I didn't make it through The Quiet Earth, should probably try again some time.

If you're fine with anime, Ergo Proxy was ok.
Kino no Tabi, if you don't mind a slow pace.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou has a very different feeling to most post-apo stuff, humanity kinda fades out silently.
Hmm... Nausicaä? Nah, doesn't count I guess.

Yeah, I guess Brazil seems more 1984 than Mad Max.

And actually I didn't think about the mass destruction, but also I'm really confused if anything in the movie that happens in the future is real or not, which is what I think is the point of the movie. But I might have the wrong impression of it.

And what about AKIRA? Guess I'm diverging to another sci-fi field now.

12 monkeys is a little ambiguous on that, but the short it is based on (La jetée) has it as a clear time travel story, so i'd say the future elements are literally happening, not just a figment of his imagination/delusions.... also, hard to explain away him having the memory of the airport from his childhood if the time-travel element isnt really happening

Yeah, the 'post-apocalyptic' and 'fucked up future' stuff overlaps to a degree. Movies in vein of The Road (empty landscapes, survival) are rare. Good movies are even rarer.

Edit: Anyone seen Stalker (1979)? Any good? (I liked the original Solaris.)
