ok if you hate criminals and criminality then you dont have to to post in this thread, or just post something like "i hate criminals and criminality" but please dont start an argument. gonna review some of the top chiptune criminals here in a "top trumps" fashion. lets go!
anton maiden:
criminality 6/10
excitement 10/10
likeability 10/10
overall score 26/30
this guy was the sh*t, he ripped off some anton maiden midis and played them back on his fm soundcard and sung over it. sadly hes dead now but hes one of the original chiptune supercriminals and his music rules
x|k
criminality 9/10
excitement 8/10
likeability 6/10
overall score 23/30
was this guy devious, lazy or just plain forgetful? the trillions of robbed midines customers dont care, they just want their money back by this point. his EPs on 8bc and mp3death speak for themselves though... come back x|k we are ready to forgive
ben dalglish:
criminality 5/10
excitement 6/10
likeability 9/10
overall score 20/30
did you know that chiptunes legend ben dalglish actually ripped off jean michel jarre when he made the soundtrack for c64 game "LOCO"? me neither! im not sure they really had copyright back then though so he only gets 5/10 on criminality... and hes a f***ing legend!!!
dimmu borgir:
criminality 7/10
excitement 8/10
likeability 5/10
overall score 20/30
who was expecting everyones favourite norwegian black metal band to appear on this list? not me! anyway apparently they ripped off the soundtrack from an amiga game called agony without giving credit to it... the bastards! i love black metal but these guys are probably racists so 5/10 from me on the likeability front. dont have much else to say about this really. dont burn churches kids
crystal castles:
criminality 8/10
excitement 7/10
likeability 3/10
overall score 18/30
this wild canadian couple (or was it australian) shot to superstardom in 2007 or 2008 with their debut album "crystal castles"... little did most of their fans know that their myspace page was harbouring a dark secret: a song by 8bitpeoples star LOBAT. if you looked closely you could find traces of theivery on the album too, with a snare drum stolen from COVOX hidden on one of the tracks. Also they stole some picture of some woman for their next album that no one liked. i dont think they ever apologised and the guy who made the backing tracks was a complete dork so they get a 3 out of 10 for likeability.
fitts for fight:
criminality 7/10
excitement 6/10
likeability 4/10
overall score 17/30
these girls had the attitude but they didnt have the talent to back it up! sadly they admitted fault and even apologised in the end so they dont get a 10/10 for criminality. some likeability because they were teenagers and their music video was punk as heck!
zombie nation:
criminality 1/10
excitement 7/10
likeability 7/10
overall score 15/30
this one-hit-wonder german techno act stole the only riff of their only hit ("kernkraft 400") from david whittaker (for those of you not in the know, thats a chiptuner)... apparently they paid for it though! are they even criminals? and the song kicks ass, it used to get stuck in my head for days.
atari teenage riot:
criminality 8/10
excitement 4/10
likeability 3/10
overall score 15/30
apparently this dude invented gameboy music way back in 1996 or something. maybe he just used a time machine to steal kulor's tracks from 8bc!! thats what happened anyway and they have a stupid image and their music sucks too. criminal, yes, but otherwise a mediocre offering from the german stalwarts
laromlab:
criminality 7/10
excitement 3/10
likeability 4/10
overall score 14/30
so this guy released a WHOLE ALBUM of songs by euro chip godz such as the AY riders and dubmood (ironically, as a member of razor 1911, dubmood himself is probably a criminal! fact is stranger than fiction). why would anyone do that? i can't think why unless its because laromlab is a complete tool. vaguely remember that he apologised though so he gets a 4/10 for likeability
frankmusik:
criminality 8/10
excitement 3/10
likeability 2/10
overall score 13/30
you might not have heard of this guy, one of his songs was sampled from a sid track by someone, i dont remember the details, his music and his fashion sense sucks, also his lyrics are boring as h*ck... sod off frankmusik!!
deadmau5:
criminality 5/10
excitement 4/10
likeability 3/10
overall score 12/30
one of his old songs is a rip off of some demoscene song, hes also sampled tim follin in one of his songs, i cant remember what happened at all but the guy is a dork and his music sucks too. and no one cared so its not even that criminal (thats how criminality works right?)
timbaland:
criminality 10/10
excitement 1/10
likeability 0/10
overall score 12/30
you all know what happened here... yeah thats right timbaland stole some c64 tune and made it into nelly furtado's greatest hit. i think he also stole a song for "ayo technology" by 50 cent. boooooring. but he made a lot of money, and it even went to court, so full marks for criminality. also he called the original composer "a f*ckin jerk" so gotta give rap producer "timbaland" a 0 out of 10 for likeability
rusko:
criminality 3/10
excitement 4/10
likeability 4/10
overall score 11/30
remember what The Sickest Dubstep That Exists sounded like before skrillex? yeah it was just tim follin soundtracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKj6AYFr6YE idk what to say about this, dubstep sucks and so does rusko
mazi:
criminality 1/10
excitement 1/10
likeability 1/10
overall score 3/30
congrats mazi you are at least more likeable than timbaland
