DO NOT buy that kind of cable. It will basically only send sync. No data. They don't fully work. You need to spend closer to $30 and up unfortunately. I would recommend the M-Audio Uno:

I really like M-Audio products.

Honestly, I'll probably end up getting the M-Audio Uno, for the sake of quality

If you have any other ideas anything, please post about it!

Hm. Well I know a lot of them are missing the actual optoisolator. I bought 4 of them on eBay and they only did clock sync.
Maybe you got lucky and they finished assembling it!

You mean the circuit is printed there, but the hardware is simply missing? WTF!

Yep! Exactly! I googled "USB-MIDI adapter schematic" because I was just going to make my own but then I found this:

First hit which is hilarious.

I ordered the proper ICs but I just could not get mine to work properly.

I suppose I did just get lucky.

Haha nice! Do you have a link for where you got that one? The PCB for mine was a different version. I followed all the correct MIDI schematics and the thing just still won't work.

for what its worth, ive owned two of them, both worked (though first one fried after a few years)

Few years isn't too bad for the price I suppose. I'm guess they made their older ones correctly and then tried to cut costs.

Amazon still had the link in my history from years ago;

The pic is different but Amazon says that it is what I bought.

Right on. If they've updated the page I think it's safe to guess that it's the new version without the optoisolator/photocoupler.

I'll probably just buy the M-Audio unit AGAIN. I tore my last one up to make a USB Arduino Boy...

nope, bought my 2nd one less than a month ago.. so its not as simple as new sucks, old good... my hunch is that the ones you had werent made by HDE, just used the same enclosures

You're not using Teensies in those?

Ah okay. I will have to give HDE a try then. Thanks!

This was a couple years ago before I was making the Teensies.
Speaking of teensies the USB-Boy will be released VERY SOON.

I figured I'd bump this because knowledge is power. I've purchased three of these inexpensive USB to MIDI cables from this guy and have had nothing but great results:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230838298743?ss … 1497.l2649

I've been able to send clock signals, send MIDI to various pieces of gear and send Sysex data. Just thought I'd help if anyone else is doubting cheap cables.
