Hey, does anybody know of any songs in 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, or 5/8? I am trying to learn how to write in non-4/4 time signatures, and hearing some other works would really help me figure out what I'm doing.
EDIT: Chip songs only please, other genres don't seem to help me haha

Moot Booxlé - Ouroboros is in 7/4 I think. And the outro of FearofDark's Fast City is in 7/8. I could be wrong on the denominators but I know they are some flavor of 7.

Many tongue 6/8 is probably my favourite time sig to write in ..(or maybe it's 9/8? I dunno)

This song incorporates a couple of the time signatures you've listed: http://soundcloud.com/fod-steve/drowning-in-sleep-it
The first part starts out in 12/8 (which is basically 6/8 anyway, but twice as long). It then shifts to 9/8 at 1:29. At 2:57 it changes to 5/4.

EDIT: Yeah, to echo what Tyler said, the outro to Fast City is 7/4. The mid-section is in 6/8 though.

this song modules time a lot

and this song is mostly in 3/4, but it uses odd accents to keep a slightly odd feel

Time signatures other than 4/4 are like my bread and butter.

This tune switches from 4/4 to 6/8 and back: http://matthewjosephpayne.bandcamp.com/track/fearplug

This track is in 6/8: http://matthewjosephpayne.bandcamp.com/ … -handles-2

This tune is in... uh... 13/8: http://matthewjosephpayne.bandcamp.com/track/dead-hand

This track switches from 4/4 to alternating bars of 5/4 and 6/4 at the 1:44 mark, then returns to 4/4 later: https://weeklytreats.bandcamp.com/track/quintation

Those last two tunes are played live by my chip/live band (and significantly expanded) in this video:

This Mario Paint ditty is in 6/8: http://weeklybeats.com/#/kineticturtle/music/gorp

And this tune is even less chip than the rest, but the drums are all LGPT, and most of the tune is in 6/8, but the bridge does thing alternating time signature thing. Originally it was a repeating pattern of time signatures of a different length than the musical phrases so they changed as they cycled, but I wound up writing it out permanently... http://weeklybeats.com/#/kineticturtle/ … bridges-ii

Oh and this sortof silly 2xLSDJ track has a big 6/8 ending: http://chipmusic.org/kineticturtle/musi … -challenge

Chromelodeon's Polygon Sun is 6/8. The original's not exactly chip, but Marshal Art did a cover of it.

There is plenty of chipmusic in time signatures other than 4/4. I'm completely biased but I think creating tracks in 5/4, 6/8, 7/8 etc. is a lot easier with a tracker. With a tracker you just change the length of a pattern to give you the number of beats per pattern that you want.

Here are some examples I can think of.

Alex Mauer's NES album Vegavox 2 is awesome | http://alexmauer.bandcamp.com/album/vegavox-2
Zenith is in 5/4, Gravity Hill is in 7/8 and 6/8

One of my favourite tracks on this site is by microB and I think it's in 11/4 ! | http://chipmusic.org/%C2%B5b/music/hole-shaped-you

I've released an LSDJ track in 6/8 and 4/4 | http://chipmusic.org/freezedream/music/anarchist

And on my Today Sega album there's a couple | http://freezedream.bandcamp.com/album/today
Realtime Love is in 5/4, Green is in 6/8

I wrote a song with 15/4, 7/4, 3/4. 4/4. and 5/4 once.  It was fun.

As practise, I would recommend programming the bass-line of Money by Pink Floyd and the the riff from Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. They both have interesting timings. The Floyd track would be a good place to start as it's simple and in in 7/8 then move onto the Zep track which is a bit more complex, I don't even think Led Zeppelin know what time signature that riff is in but it's a good exercise in programming non-4/4/ based timing.

Not sure what kind of measure it is but this is my only *off-beat* track I created.
