I like to pre-make backing beats and use a keyboard (modified computer keyboard) and a looper (which is on a pedalboard with other effects) to put down bass and lead by controlling LSDJ on a pro-sound DMG. Though it may be cheating because I also make use of bass guitar.
I have never played to more than a handful of people, however. So this may not be applicable to setups large enough for people to want to come and see.
